Yesterday’s class was such a joy. Beautiful people, talented carvers (all first timers) and so much enthusiasm.
I had had very little sleep the night before due to a sick dog and I was a little apprehensive about how I’d get through the day. I’ve also been wondering if I want to keep teaching as I’m starting to do more catering and selling my food products.
This class confirmed that I’m not ready to stop. I just relish the joy I get watching people uncover their creativity and see their spoons emerge from a piece of timber. I love watching them slip into the carving meditation as they whittle and their elation after oiling up their spoon. It’s too good to give up!
I will be catering on a retreat soon then heading off on my first vision quest then travelling OS so next classes will be August. Hope to see you there 😊

Life reset. I used to do this every year before covid times and then I think I forgot about it. Solo retreat somewhere not too far away to sleep, walk, meditate, read, eat nourishing food (that I precook so I don’t have to cook much while away), journal and sleep some more. These 4 days have been blissful. I love my own company. I love silence. I love staring at bodies of water. I love hiking alone in new places. It makes me feel connected to me again and a lot better resourced as a mum and partner when I get home. I’m ready to go home tomorrow back to my peeps with my cup well and truly full ❤️

It's always a pleasure working alongside Patt Woodwork for Women and an added pleasure to meet Katie Girl & Grain. Katie runs an assortment of fantastic woodworking courses in Sydney, I recommend looking her up!

Best time ever meeting and woodworking with Katie for Girl & Grain from Sydney. Katie made joinery making look easy as pie!
Hand made Mortise and tenons, Dovetails, Bridle joint, Halving joint, she even carved a spoon with the skilful and wonderful Sophie from Sophie's Spoons from Mullumbimby and the list goes on.... Thanks Katie for an amazing time.
If you live in Sydney and want an experience making beautiful things from wood, Katie is your person. She runs cool classes. She has some spots left. Girl & Grain

So I just spent 20 minutes trying to do a holiday pic post then a reel then I stuffed it all up. So here are some salad servers, something I’m far better at making than reels! These beauties are made from red cedar and the handles burned shou sugi ban style.
Exciting news…classes are scheduled for term 1 and term 2. Grab your spot from the link in my bio or DM me. I look forward to meeting you for carving 😊
And happy new year if I don’t manage to sort out my reel 🥳

Bird Carving classes for Term 1 and 2 are scheduled! Look forward to carving with you.

Haven’t shown my face on here for a while. This is me, in my other happy place apart from my shed. Kayaking on the water with my partner, our daughter and our dog. I grew up in Adelaide and spent most of my 20’s travelling the world as an ESL teacher. Ended up in Sydney as a remedial massage therapist where I met my partner Nige and we moved to northern NSW/Bundjalung country in 2008. Mullumbimby is home now and I love it. I’m 46 and into health, nature, wood, gardening and all things alternative and spiritual. Thanks for joining me here. Tell me something about you 😊

I needed a long handled cooking spoon which was strong and sturdy for all the cooking I do, so I made one today. White Beech, burned shou sugi ban style because flames are fun.

I find bird carving even more meditative than spoon carving. Just a bird blank (roughed out shape of a bird) and a sharp whittling knife and see where the wood takes me. I still have some places left for my Nov 19 workshop. Link in bio for tix. Come and play 😊

The workshop clean up has begun 😳 Here’s a before video of all my mess for your viewing pleasure. Not sure when the after video will be posted but it’ll be before my spoon carving class next Saturday!
