👣 Footprints recognised for outstanding patient experience ❤️

The Footprints Day Centre team, located in the St John of God Murdoch Community Hospice has taken out the Patient Experience Team Award at the inaugural St John of God Health Care Professor Con Michael Clinical Excellence Awards.

Supported by dedicated volunteers, the team brings comfort, connection and dignity to patients and families through companionship and complementary therapies.

“Footprints Day Centre provides a sense of home when home is no longer an option,” said coordinator Ellen Ducrow.

“Receiving this award means everything. It celebrates the dedication and generosity of our volunteers and shines a light on how complementary therapies can work alongside traditional health care to optimise patient care.”

Georgia is one of our recent Caregivers of the Month ⭐

Georgia is a Registered Nurse and was nominated by an anxious patient for her compassionate care after waking from a procedure. "I felt quite vulnerable about my procedure, but as soon as I heard Georgia’s voice, I knew I was in safe hands. What I thought was going to be a scary time, was the most peaceful and comfortable time having Georgia there by my side," they said.

Congratulations, Georgia. You are an asset to the Murdoch team! 👏

💙 St John of God Day at Murdoch 💙

Today, caregivers came together to celebrate St John of God Day, honouring the legacy of our patron saint and his call to “do all the good works that you can.”

A highlight of the day was our lunch fundraiser, where caregivers generously donated in support of Djaalinj Waakinj, our Charity of the Year, helping Aboriginal children access life-changing health care - a meaningful way to live our Mission in action.

We also marked the day by:

✨ Gathering for a special Mass in the Hospital Chapel
🏆 Celebrating dedication and excellence at our Caregiver of the Year presentation
🤍 Taking time to reflect on the values that guide our work every day

Thank you to all caregivers who took part and helped make the day so special, for our community and beyond.

Today we celebrate the feast day of Saint John of God.

More than 400 years ago, John walked the streets of Granada, Spain, and saw suffering he could not ignore. He carried the sick on his back, driven by a simple belief: the person in front of him deserved dignity and care.

As we reflect on Saint John of God's call to “do all the good works that you can," we are reminded that every good work is connected. Across our hospitals and services, these everyday moments of care add up to something extraordinary.

Today, we are proud to be an organisation that bears his name, founded by the Sisters of St John of God, whose legacy of compassion and service continues to guide the way we care for our communities.

On Wednesday, we were honoured to welcome our friend and talented Noongar artist Aunty Neta Knapp, who shared the story behind her beautiful painting 'Walking on Boodja', now proudly displayed in the entrance foyer at St John of God Murdoch Community Hospice.

Created in honour of her sister, Aunty Neta spoke about how art became her avenue for expression at a time when words were hard to find. Walking on Boodja weaves together the river, wildflowers, community and the footprints left by those who journey across the land. It reflects Djilba (the Noongar season of conception) a time of mixed weather and transition, before the new life of Kambarang (the season of birth).

We are so grateful to Aunty Neta for sharing her gift with us. It is truly a piece that will bring comfort to patients, loved ones and caregivers for many years to come.

Congratulations to our Thomas Furlong team who were presented with the Heart of Murdoch: Team Excellence Award last month! 🏆❤️👏

The award was paid forward by Catering, who said the following:

“We see many families walk through incredibly difficult moments as they say goodbye to someone they love. We hear their stories, share in their tears, and witness the deep love that surrounds them right to the very end.

Moments like these happen every day for Thomas Furlong caregivers. They show up with empathy, patience, and genuine care, often carrying more than anyone realises.

We feel they deserve something meaningful to remind them they are seen, valued, and truly appreciated. A simple gesture to brighten their day and acknowledge the difference they make in the lives of families who will never forget them." 🤝

Let's hear it for Thomas Furlong! ⭐
