Fatima is one of our recent recipients of an Excellence Award ⭐

Fatima is a ward host and was nominated by a patient's family for her excellent service during the patient's time here. "My dad was a patient and we would like to thank and compliment Fatima. She was very patient and helpful, collaborating with him and his post-op fibre limits to cater well to his wishes. Our family are incredibly grateful for the care provided by Fatima during his time in hospital," they said.

Congratulations, Fatima! You are an asset to the Murdoch team! 👏

🎉🐾 Happy 3rd workiversary to our beloved caregiver wellbeing dog, Sunny! ☀️

For three years, Sunny has been our ultimate “furgiver”, offering cuddles, comfort and endless tail wags that brighten even the busiest of days. 💛

Thank you, Sunny, for three pawsome years of love and support. Here’s to many more walks, pats and happy moments together! 🐶✨

With 1 in 2 Australians diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85, we are so proud of the world-class research and discoveries and treatment options that our expert clinicians and researchers are bringing to our community.

Today, as part of our regular 'Grand Rounds' program, our Head of Oncology, Haematology and Palliative Care, A/Prof Kynan Feeney provided an auditorium full of doctors, nurses, allied health professionals (and others keen to grow their knowledge!) an insightful overview of the inspiring advancements in clinical research and trials underway here at Murdoch.

Thank you A/Prof Feeney for giving us a glimpse into the life-changing and life-saving work you and your colleagues are doing, every day.

✨ Patient story: Michael Guerin ✨

For Michael Guerin, life has always been about people, stories, and making the most of every moment. 🥰

From flying instructor to airline pilot, from historian to bestselling author, Michael’s journey has been extraordinary. His passion for knowledge began with his mother, an English teacher, instilled in him that “reading is the key to knowledge.” That love of learning carried him across the world, from the Sorbonne in France to teaching at Cambridge University.

Michael has written freelance articles, poetry, and published internationally recognised books, one of which is now used as a teaching tool in New Zealand. 📚

Through it all, Michael says it’s the people he’s met along the way that mean the most. “I just enjoy meeting people… You’ve only got one term on this planet, you might as well make the most of it.”

We have loved hearing Michael's story as we care for him - a reminder that every patient has a story and a lifetime of experiences to share.

The daffodil is a symbol of hope, strength and resilience for everyone impacted by cancer. Today, we turned our hospital yellow to honour loved ones, support those living with cancer, and contribute to life-saving research and services.

Grace is one of our recent Caregivers of the Month ⭐

Grace is a registered nurse and was nominated by a patient for the confidence, knowledge, and professionalism she displayed through her care. "In getting to know Grace over my days here, I have found her to be very competent, proficient in forward planning, and thorough in her follow-up. Grace is a keeper! If she were my daughter, I would be very proud. Thank you, Grace," they said.

Congratulations to our Emergency Department who were the recent winners of the Heart of Murdoch: Team Excellence Award! 🏆❤️👏

The award was paid forward by our Cancer Centre, who said the following:
“They have been there for our department when we are at our most vulnerable, and when our patients are at their most vulnerable. We can always rely on them for support and care. They never judge us for asking for help, while empowering us as experts in our area during times of need. Our patients and caregivers are always their top priority. Thank you always being there for us – we would like to award the Heart of Murdoch to our Emergency Department.” 🤝

🤱 This World Breastfeeding Week, we’re proud to support new mums at Murdoch with personalised breastfeeding care and education.

With the theme “Prioritise Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems”, our maternity teams are here to provide expert advice, encouragement, and support from pregnancy through to postpartum.

Thanks to our friends at Rite Aid Australia, new mums at St John of God Murdoch Hospital and St John of God Subiaco Hospital also received thoughtful care packs to help make those early days a little more comfortable 💚
