Amazing! 🙌

Dana had NO IDEA she was 41 weeks pregnant!

The Australian flew long haul to Florida, did all the rides and was stuck in her hotel room when the hurricane hit.

She felt a bit bloated (😳🤯) so took some laxatives - then, DURING A BLACK OUT, she gave birth BY HERSELF in the hotel bathroom!

In the morning, when her partner woke up, she goes, "Good morning. Surprise! You're a dad!"

Like seriously blokes can you even imagine!?

You go to bed, oblivious, and when you wake up - THERE'S A BABY!!! An actual BABYYY!!

I tell you, women are magical, unicorn creatures.

Now, after this amazing woman has performed this phenomenal feat, the ambos cart her down the steps in a stretcher as if she'd suddenly lost the use of her legs. And in the hospital, they manage to get her into one of the institutional gowns. It might just be my independent streak, but geez, they sure know how to push that "No no, you're helpless & dependent, you NEED us!" thing, it seems like to me.

I mean this woman is a freaking AMAZON! She thought she just had WIND!! and ends up having an unexpected baby & unplanned freebirth - all by herself! In a blackout!! In a hurricane!! While hubby is snoring blissfully in the other room!

That's a wilder ride than the freakiest roller-coaster!

And now, after all that, they've got to jump through hoops & red tape to get their baby home to Australia.

What a story!

They'll be dining out on this for years to come.

🤰🤰💞 More women than ever before will be able to access Toowoomba Hospital’s Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) program. 🤰🤰💞

The program provides continuity of care with a known midwife through a woman’s pregnancy, labour, birth and early parenting.

With additional midwives being employed to the program, the eligibility criteria has been changed to include more women.

“We have moved to an ‘all-inclusive’ model, specifically looking at women from vulnerable demographics or women who would benefit from more emotional support through pregnancy,” Toowoomba Hospital MGP midwife Haidee said.

Wanna get involved? Ask your GP to request on your antenatal referral a desire to be considered for MGP care.

This!
This is why I am doing what I do!
We need a village, we need support!

We were never meant to live like this. Want to know why you’re so tired? It’s not just because your baby wakes all night. It’s not just because you’re nursing 24/7. It’s not because of your baby’s biological needs. It’s because we were never meant to live like this. In so much isolation. So alone. We were meant for a village. We were meant to lay in bed for weeks/months feeding and sleeping with our new baby while our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, cousins, neighbors, and friends helped out.

But there is no mother bringing us food and water. No grandma cooking the meals. No sisters playing with the other children. No cousins folding the laundry. No neighbors taking care of the house, and no friends providing support. Modern life is in constant conflict with childrearing and our biological needs. From returning to work at 6 weeks postpartum to little to no support in the postpartum period. The truth is many of us are just lucky enough to have someone drop a meal off but not lucky enough to have them actually come inside. And it’s not their fault. They don’t have a village either. There’s never been a mother to bring them food and water. Never a grandma to cook their meals. Never sisters playing with their other children. Never cousins folding the laundry. Never neighbors taking care of the house and never friends providing support.

Our babies are biologically designed to wake often and eat often. We are biologically designed for a village. Be easy on yourself and your baby. We were never meant to live like this.
