Virtual care is now helping stroke patients get treated faster and more effectively 🚑

The RMH‑led trial using Australia’s first Mobile Stroke Unit (MSU) has shown that early stroke treatment through virtual options is improving patient outcomes.

Findings published in the New England Journal of Medicine, Evidence, revealed that a virtual neurologist can safely guide treatment on the MSU, removing the need for an on‑board neurologist and transforming how acute stroke care is delivered before a patient reaches hospital.

With this model, potential stroke patients receive immediate assessment from an RMH‑based neurologist, saving critical time and allowing neurologists to focus where they’re needed most rather than spending time on the roads.

Professor Stephen Davis, Director of the Melbourne Brain Centre at the RMH and co‑author of the research, said the results will streamline care and deliver better outcomes.

“Telemedicine allows us to utilise state‑of‑the‑art technology to deliver world‑class stroke expertise wherever the patient is – not just where a neurologist happens to be.”

The MSU team has already put the findings into practice, with a virtual neurologist at the RMH now providing life‑saving care across Melbourne.

Great news….. our little rant regarding social media / trauma victims and the effect it has on emergency services has gained some attention. listen to the ABC radio tomorrow morning for the interview. Honestly I was a bit riled up so no idea how it will be perceived to the public but please continue to keep this conversation going ❤️

‼️Trigger warning post ‼️

As local business working in healthcare we under no circumstances tolerate the community members filming taking photos at accident scenes. We have been made aware of this and it seems to be happening more and more and want to educate the community.

Not only do paramedics, police , SES have the right to do thier job to save lives with out it being splashed all over social media but family members of the victims and the victims themselves deserve the right to dignity and respect in thier time of need.

Our business does not support these actions and honestly find it disgusting, abhorrent and disgraceful.

What a great day at Balmoral. Lots of laughs and fun had by all of us.
