This festive season as we get into our cars, hop on our motorbikes, bicycles or e-scooters, nurses at The Alfred are urging all Victorians to keep safety front of mind.

Take regular driving breaks, stick to the speed limit, ensure everyone is wearing a seatbelt or safety gear and remember that getting there is never that urgent.

Trauma nurse Sue Smith has worked many holiday shifts over the last 33 years and said she’s seen firsthand the devastation road accidents can cause.

“The festive season is already an emotionally heightened time, which makes it all the more shocking when tragedy strikes on the road,” Sue said.

“In a split second, what is usually a happy time can be tainted for families and the people affected for years to come.”
