Curiosity.
Curiosity is a super power, a lost art form.
I have only just begun to realise the potency of curiosity.
Curiosity has the potential to bring us closer to each other, to deepen our connection with others and ourselves.
It’s so easy to assume we know what people think and feel.
When others speak we are often listening through our own lense, our own preconceptions, our own perceptions and projections.
In the same way we do this to others ( of course very often unintentionally) we do this to ourselves. We assume where our feelings or responses are coming from. We project or judge or categorise these feelings as good or bad, worthy or unworthy.
Often this hinders our ability to process.
Recently I had a moment of feeling something quite edgy, I started straight up with the judgement, the analysis, the labelling of what it was.
I caught myself doing this.
And instead I decided to get curious.
My way of exploring my deeper emotional landscape is generally through movement.
So I danced.
I’m lucky enough to have some epic 5 rhythms and other embodied dance experiences close by that I regularly attend.
As I began to move, I felt into the edginess.
I noticed resistance, I got curious.
I was patient.
I was told once: our feelings have feelings too.
Mostly we all just want to be seen.
Feeling misunderstood is diminishing and frustrating.
So as I moved and sat with what was there patiently with curiosity.
I felt grief, a deep grief, something I hadn’t yet made contact with.
I enquired into this further.
I made contact with what was there, all the sharp and confusing edges of grief.
This allowed space for a big breakthrough for me.
If we don’t allow curiosity, we prevent ourselves from making contact. True and authentic contact with others and ourselves.
From this flows deep and authentic connection to others and life itself.
I’m currently writing in more depth about this and will share in time.
But for now I wanted to share that little thought.
Ayurveda is all about alchemising what we make contact with, food, emotions, experiences, hardships.
The art of alchemising so we can receive the vital essence of life.
