Turn back time? Regrets? Chance to go left instead of right?…Conflict…some funerals we have to do numerous times for the one person because of troubled waters between family/friends…we have had to have bouncers, police presence & undercover ‘body guards’ just incase…it often gets me pondering about our human hearts & what is the underlying common denominator we all share when it comes to what the root cause of conflict is…seems to boil down to values & morals being the cause of the vicious vortex…& that birth & death are the barometer for the expression of them more than any other time in our lives…remaining neutral is testing to say the least, I’ve had to bite my tongue & scream into a pillow many times as we deathcare advocates can be on the receiving end of one’s wrath in ways that are really hard to have coming at you…grief is a ferocious animal if left starved of love, warmth & care…this funeral pictured holds none of the above, it was one of those ones that moved us all into the melting pot of why we choose to hold our hugs a century longer in this life taking all the time needed to simply be together…

Watched The Dark Wizard yet?

WOW…to fly…& got me thinking/feeling/remembering all the stories people share after the death of their loves & my own personal experiences of the relationships between spirit & birds…if you haven’t seen this yet, hold tight it’s an experience in itself…

After close to 6 years of dedicated creation, fumbling, building, guiding, crying, falling, rising, crawling & letting go I now step down & to the side with my head bowed returning to the belly of why I built this pontoon in the first place…so much more to come on this yet for now I’d like to warmly introduce you to Claire from many years ago Zenith from the Natural Deathcare Centre told both of us we need to meet for many reasons…10 months ago we sat opposite each other at an end of life event in Brisbane…clocking each other at the same time having that moment of there ‘she’ is…a day hasn’t passed that we have not fallen off the side of the universe being with what is carved in our marrow when it comes to the future of deathcare…we have joined our hearts, our services & Claire will now managing the Paperbark Pontoon & me! I return to having a moment to digest these years writing it all out (blockbuster material!), landing all the lassos with love & creating the next chapter which is not what you ‘think’ because building & growing our ‘funeral homes’ isn’t what our society or culture truly need if we are going to truly serve deathcare practices & what is true when we die…
This image says it all, Claire is all heart, a beam of light in the undertaking world, with crystal clear vision through everyone & everything..Claire has served thousands of families in her years & has what is needed next in the shared evolution of our power, passion & devotion to the dead & how we tend…we are both now sitting in the cauldron readying for blowing the many conches…

Way back before deathing I was a Steiner early childhood educator…over the almost 20 years floating in the anthroposophical realms there were children who died & had terminal diagnosis…this image is one of them & where it all began on a deeper level serving death & ceremony…it was Autumn 2015, a precious little girl came to class one morning wondering if she would make it to her 8th birthday, I asked what her birthday wish was? ‘To gallop on the beach on a horse’…I granted her that wish the following weekend, turned up at her house on Bali, one of my land whales (I have a herd of horses that currently are cared for by )…we went for an adventure together that afternoon that was incredible…we flew along the beach from Brunswick Heads to Belongil had a milkshake at the Treehouse & slowly returned home…as we went from a canter into gallop I whispered in her ear close your eyes & spread your wings honey I’ve got you…& I managed to capture the shadow of us…this is why I began this work, this is what I need to remind my self of on the days that are hard wading through the swamplands & this is why I have had to back flip out of the front lines for a little while to return back to this very place…nothing compares to arms out at full gallop with a land whale guiding the way…

For Claire Bear,

We filled Ewingsdale Hall, bowed down to your radiance in life & death, we danced & returned you to the waters…today is now Mother’s Day… you received a 3 metre wide bouquet of flowers with your stardust in the centre of it all as the tide turned quietly in the middle of the night…reminding each of us that it all comes down to love…🤍

For many Mother’s Day isn’t a ‘happy’ day it’s a humbling ouchy one…

See you ‘In Dreams’ Claire…

We have certainly covered some miles at Paperbark in the past fortnight with ceremonies & tending in our Northern Rivers hood whilst mixing it up in Sydney, Brisbane, Toowoomba & Crescent Head…

All in awe of the small things that blow hearts wide open, getting a gnarly flu crossed with burnout & still managing to have some quiet downtime this weekend readying for the new beginnings at Paperbark with me now stepping away/down from the helm ~ to focus on why I started this damn thing to begin with!

Yes I’ll still be here just not in the frontlines so much, which after 6 years this August full throttle building this service it’s time to return to the real passion which is the advocacy/education & blowing the bu****it side of the funeral industry up…

Happy Sunday peeps this is the first one in a long while I’ve spent horizontal doing absolutely nothing…

First vid ~ if you haven’t heard the Breeze version on You Tube with speaking on grief/death take a moment when you can, it’s beautiful.

Second pic ~ moi delerious after no sleep, full of snot & packing for the next death mission.

I often wonder/fantasise what it would be like a few hundreds of years ago serving in deathcare…when the midwives & grandmothers were the gatekeepers at birth & death…now it’s big business, corporate infused doulas & the current tide seems to be dressed in a form of ‘community’ advocacy & activism yet most feed what I see as the underlying problem - outsourcing certain parts because either it’s just too hard, not possible or in real talk many don’t want to get their hands dirty having limits on what who & how…
The amount of outsourcing now in deathcare blows my mind/heart, the AI generated death talk is off with curated finely timed posts is cringe…yes the tide is turning, yes we have another century or two to go in pulling the carpet out from under the ‘funeral industry standards’…yes I’m a punk that gets wild at the current state & then I return to the work doing the actual thing, building the space for it happen in real time, no outsourcing…some of you may not know what I’m even talking about, soon you will though as we are in the process of blowing a very big whistle so you really know who is who in the deathcare zoo in every state in Australia…it will be a resource for all to look up & have the big questions answered…its important everyone know’s where & how their people’s bodies are respectfully honoured or not & just who’s pockets are really being lined…who drives the costs of death/funerals & why you really only need us for certain parts…I’ve been waiting 5 years to blow this conch all while tending & guiding well over 500 ceremonies outsourcing NOTHING, there are very few of us when you peel back the onion skin…am I mad? Yep? Am I doing the true thing? Yes for this heart of mine & the families/kin that we serve…

Currently I am in Brisbane doing ceremonies, big difference in regulations between NSW & QLD, all states have their own so called rules…yet no one is governing them…I have soooo much to say on this but for today I shall bow out & head to the flower market for some soul soothing…

This is one of my favourite pics ever, one of the most divine young women is snuggled in, this was her heart song…

Slowly unfurling out of a harsh hiatus, a big break from socials has been had, a rather large sea change has happen within the walls of Paperbark & sometimes who & what you ‘think’ is going to happen next is the entire opposite runway & flightpath! This ride certainly is a mysterious one & it was probably the fact I flew to Sydney this weekend & got to wear gold sequins & purple velvet shoes for the ceremony that broke the silence…do love a dress up funeral!!

So to all the new followers, welcome…to all the friends, family & supporters who have backed me/us through some of the wildest of waters we have sailed through yet, thank you still many oceans to cross but the hull of the ship is now solid…I/we did a blanket shut down of all coms - we continued to serve the dead & their people but all online platforms we pulled the blinds…To the trolls watching, spirit sorts it all out, two truths actually cannot exist at once as much as I’d like to believe so, this has been a humbling reality bite after you really boil the bones down to the heart of it all…To all the families we have served over these past few months, just when we go into a cycle of contraction, change & curious times the wide berth of expansion always seems to walk on through stretching us in ways I didn’t know where humanly possible!

So here we are, change & movement are at foot, we have some very exciting news on the horizon & as I spend the weekend in the big smoke actually cruising the harbours waters for a memorial as dolphins come along with us I am reminded of just how incredible this life experience is when we go slow enough to really feel it all the way through…

Get ready, alot is about to be launched into the atmosphere from my & Claire’s hearts…

Big love everyone & from the belly of it all thank you for sailing on the Paperbark pontoon with us…
