Everyone is talking about the show on Netflix, ā€˜Adolescence’.
Have you seen it yet?

This is a decent review and is worth a read. Even if you don’t read the whole thing, scroll to the end for some very good tips on what you can do to help your kids as a parent.

If you don’t know enough about phones/internet to properly monitor your kids use, then you really do need to educate yourself.

https://www.safeonsocial.com is a good place to start if you need help with this.

BOOK RECOMMENDATION!!

ā€˜Give yourself more’ by Georgie Fear and K Aleisha Fetters.

This was recommended to me by my personal trainer when I was looking for something to read to add to my learning about nutrition. But this book gave me so much MORE šŸ˜‚

No really, I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t just another book about what and how to eat for weight loss. It talks about the need to truly nourish ourselves, yes with food, but in other important ways as well. It includes a lot of relevant information about mental health, wellbeing, emotions, and values. So I knew it would be relevant for a lot of my clients as well.

So check this one out if you want to find out what ā€˜defying diet culture’ looks like, and start giving yourself more, mentally emotionally and physically.

Clinical Supervision is an imperative part of our work as helping professionals, and having a good supervisor can make all the difference.

I believe supervision should be a safe space where you can allow yourself to be vulnerable, to allow for deep reflection on what is happening for you in the relationships you build with your clients. A place where you can receive support to understand your own needs as a person and a professional.

Your supervisor should be someone you can trust to guide and support you from a genuine, caring place. A person who can use their own experience and knowledge to help you become the counsellor or social worker you are meant to be.

Providing supervision to practitioners who are reflective, curious and open to learning is something that I am very passionate about. If this sounds like what you are looking for, please reach out and start a conversation with me.

The new year is a popular time to set new goals and make big plans. But there are so many reasons why this is not always necessary.

Maybe you're already on the way to achieving your goals and you're happy with your progress, so you don't need to set a new resolution. You can just keep trucking along and do what you've been doing.

Or perhaps you're feeling tired or unmotivated and can't work up the energy to set any goals. If this is the case, it's OK to slow things down a bit this year. Use this time to be more contemplative and reflective, and focus on how you really need to spend your time and energy. Nurture your mind and your body.

This year, go ahead and give yourself permission to take some of the pressure off. Life can be stressful enough without adding to it when there's no need.

Our Story

Hope Counselling Service is a private counselling practice based in Muswellbrook NSW, provided by Melinda Timmons.

Melinda is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW) and qualified Counsellor with over twelve years experience providing therapeutic services to adolescents and adults. Melinda is committed to helping people make changes in their lives, even when things may feel hopeless. Although engaging in therapy can not change what has happened in the past, it can help to change the impact it has on the present and the future.

Working from a strengths-based perspective, Melinda is trained in a variety of evidence-based therapeutic interventions including cognitive, behavioural, somatic and mindfulness based therapies. She uses an integrative approach tailored to your individual needs, with a focus on strengths, resilience and recovery.

She has a particular interest in providing therapeutic intervention for the treatment of trauma and trauma-related difficulties, as well as a wide variety of other types of mental health related difficulties, such as depression, anxiety, addiction, and relationship difficulties.
