Ayurveda is the sister-science to yoga and is an ancient health system based on individual constitutions, the food we eat and seasons.
It's autumn, it's cold and windy. This is Vata season - that of the air. Our modern society is Vata heavy, we're "in our head", we "live a fast life" and we tend to honour business. This all imbalances the Vata in our systems. If you feel as though you're an over-thinker, over-busy, stressed or feeling anxious, you may benefit from incorporating some Vata balancing techniques into your daily routine.
One beautiful way to help support our body is to practise abhyanga, self-oil-massage. Generally, using an organic black sesame oil is balancing for all Doshas (individual elemental constitutions), it is particularly warming. You can really use any oil you have on hand though.
At the moment, I'm using rosehip oil from Pat Collins Herbalist & Natural Therapies T.H.E Centre Muswellbrook . Rosehip is a thinner oil and not quite as warming as sesame oil, but it feels beautiful and has high vitamin C and A, helps the skin to heal and may help my pregnant belly stretch marks to look less prominent.
Rosehip oil can also be used to support blood flow around the reproductive organs, kidneys and liver. Using sparingly during early pregnancy is advised and if any cramping occurs, choose a different oil or maybe just use on hands and face.
Happy self-care day everyone,
Xo Corinne
