π School brings so many exciting things to learn. Reading, writing, listening, sharing ideas and making friends.
Before children can confidently keep up with classroom activities, their hands and bodies are learning important foundations.
Fine motor skills help children hold pencils, cut with scissors, build shapes and complete small tasks with control. Focus skills help them stay engaged long enough to practise and learn.
These foundations often grow through play first.
β¨ squeezing and rolling playdough
β¨ drawing shapes and lines
β¨ building small structures
β¨ exploring hands on activities
When children build these skills early, they feel more confident using learning tools in the classroom.
And the best part is that practice often looks like play. π¨
At Melville OT we love creating playful ways for children to practise these important skills while having fun too.
