After a busy time over the last 7 years with clinics in Kanmantoo, Pinnaroo, Hahndorf, Nairne, and by arrangement elsewhere, I have taken on a full time role in cardiac research and will only be conducting the very occassion treatments from Kanmantoo.

This is where structure meets the nervous system.

The face, jaw, eyes and ears are not just local structures…
they are part of how the whole system communicates.

When I see jaw tension, teeth grinding, eye strain, or head and neck tightness,
I’m not just looking at the area itself.

I’m asking:
👉 how is the system organising?
👉 what is it holding?
👉 and where is it not supported?

Because the body always leaves clues…
and often, the face is where those patterns become visible.

To the eye, Bowen Therapy may look minimal.

But beneath the surface, the body is processing, adjusting, and responding in its own time.

Absolutely so true. I watch how my clients walk and how they hold their body. I don’t need my clients to tell me where they are feeling pain - I see it &/or feel it when I put my hands on the body.

Most therapists were taught where to place the move…
but not always how to read the body first.

Sometimes the difference isn’t technique.

It’s noticing:

👉 what’s actually presenting
👉 what the body is prioritising
👉 what’s compensating

And once you start to see that…

you don’t work the same way again.

Each person responds differently.

Each body adapts differently.

Bowen Therapy isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach — it’s responsive.

Practitioners observe, adjust and work with what’s presenting.

Because your body’s story is unique.

Ever feel like your body is stuck in a knot?

Bowen Therapy works with gentle moves and intentional pauses that encourage the body to soften and reorganise, as best it’s able.

Sometimes less really is more.

Sometimes it starts with a sore back after too many hours at a desk.

Sometimes it’s the physical strain of sport, work, or daily life.

Sometimes it’s simply the impact of stress.

Whatever the reason, Bowen Therapy offers a gentle, whole-body approach that many people find worth exploring.

A small region of the brain called the insular cortex plays a remarkable role in how we experience the body.

It helps interpret signals related to:

• pain
• temperature
• internal organs
• emotional states
• body awareness

In other words, it’s one of the brain’s key centres for understanding how the body feels from the inside.

Researchers studying touch, movement and body awareness often look at this region because it helps translate sensory signals into conscious experience.

Bowen Therapy works through gentle, specific movements that provide subtle sensory input to the nervous system.

While science has not specifically demonstrated that Bowen “targets” the insula, therapies involving touch are part of the broader conversation about how the brain and body communicate.

Because the nervous system is always listening.

The vagus nerve is one of the body’s primary communication pathways.

It carries information about what’s happening in the body up to the brain — and sends signals from the brain back to many of our vital organs.

This constant feedback helps the body maintain homeostasis across systems like the heart, lungs and digestive organs.

Research also suggests the vagus nerve plays an important role in how the body responds to stress and inflammation.

Bowen Therapists work with an awareness of these communication systems, recognising that the body is always gathering information and adjusting in response.

Because the body isn’t just a collection of parts.

It’s an ongoing conversation.

Bowen Therapy is gentle. Precise. Minimal.

A tight hip can strain the lower back.

A stiff neck can cause jaw pain.

Your body is a network — and Bowen Therapy considers the whole map, not just the trouble spot.

A concept explored in the work of Dr Bessel van der Kolk reminds us that our experiences don’t just live in our thoughts.

They are reflected in the body.

Our bodies are constantly adapting to the pressures and pace of modern life.

When stress becomes ongoing, it can influence how we feel, move and function.

Paying attention to early signs — tension, fatigue, disrupted sleep, feeling “wired” or flat — is part of proactive self-care.

Approaches such as Bowen Therapy aim to work with the nervous system, creating space for the body to settle and reset.

Listening to the body isn’t weakness.
It’s wisdom.
