In some areas of the world, including much of Asia, the baby squat (aka Asian squat) is an ability everyone uses daily, so these people don't lose the ability to squat deep without losing balance.

Western cultures introduce sitting in chairs early in life, which doesn't open the hips or use ankle dorsiflexion, both being common limiting factors in an adult's ability to squat.
