Members of The Canicross Club had an amazing weekend at the inaugural Ultradog 50km event in Kowen Forest (ACT). Racing through the night under clear skies with a full moon was a sometimes surreal experience. They also had some impressive results, with Dan & Chase in 1st place men's canicross, Robert & Arya 3rd place men's canicross. In the teams category, the 'Outback Dogs', Lucy & Sid, Joe & Zeus, Andrea & Kira, Sharnie & Baaka came in 2nd place. For those who love distance racing, you have a year to get ready.

To finish off our pups point of view on the committee, here is their take on the Ordinary Member

This dog is a quiet achiever, the rock-solid foundation of the committee who ensures the core business of the club runs smoothly. They're the ones who show up early with a wagging tail and a can-do attitude, happily helping to set up the course, help with registration, and stay late to pack up. You won't find them seeking the spotlight; their reward is the simple joy of a smoothly run event and the infectious energy of the pack.
They are the reliable paws behind the scenes, ensuring the water bowls are always full, the finish line is perfectly marked, and everyone has a great time. They handle the nitty-gritty details with a calm and cheerful demeanor, proving that the most important contributions are often the quietest. Their work is a labor of love, and they feel a deep sense of pride in seeing their fellow dogs have a fantastic time. They are the unsung heroes of the club, making every race and social event a success.

The pack would love to have more kids involved, so another position to consider is the Junior Development Officer
The puppy trainer. This human is dedicated to making sure the little pups (humans) in our club grow up to be amazing canicrossers. They organize special training sessions and games, and they're always patient and kind. They're responsible for making sure the little ones get a good start in canicross, teaching them the ropes without stressing them out.

Another great position that may suit someone is the Sponsorship Officer
This human's job is to beg for free stuff, we can sometimes help with this. This person is a master of getting things without paying for them. They approach other companies and convince them to give us free gear, food, or money to pay our expenses. They are a valuable member of the pack because they make sure we have the best equipment for our runs, plus lots of treats, samples and interesting gear for us to win.

The pack thought they would benefit from having a Membership Officer.
They are in charge of bringing new friends into our pack. They sniff out all the new human-dog teams and make sure they feel welcome. It's a very important job because more members mean more belly rubs and new scents to explore. They're very good at it, with a friendly voice and a pocket full of treats. We're always happy to see new faces, especially if they have a dog that's up for a good game of chase.

This one is the official paparazzi. They follow us around with a strange, glowing rectangle, taking pictures and videos of our most majestic canicross moments. They then post these photos and others on the internet to show the world how fast and good looking we are. We've learned to pose on cue, tilting our heads just so, because we know the best photos get the most likes on Instagram (and the more likes the greater the chance we get treats). We appreciate the publicity, of course. They're also responsible for making sure the world knows how to tell a good dog from a great dog—we're the ones with the wagging tails and the mud-covered fur.

The next position up for review is the Treasurer.
The human with the treat jar. They control all the funds, which is dog-speak for making sure there's enough treats, toys, and awards to go around. We see them as the keepers of the snacks, and their approval is essential for any financial decision that impacts our well-being. They're the ones who make sure the club can afford to host races and buy shiny new toys for the fastest runners. Their spreadsheets are filled with numbers and formulas, but all we see is a tally of how many treats have been acquired and how many are left.
