Come take a peep into one of our school holiday groups!

Our incredible therapists supported some friends in creating their own play dough & slime to take home.

During the session, we worked on:
- Social communication: introductions, asking questions, reciprocal communication
- Receptive language: following directions & verbs (mix, knead, ect)
- Expressive language: commenting, questioning & requesting for certain ingredients.

We supported our friends with some visuals, modelling & of course breaks for when the group was too loud!

POV: you came for speech therapy… but stayed for the chaos 😂

And somehow… we still hit all the therapy goals 💁‍♀️

What this actually shows:

Sometimes what looks like “getting it wrong” or “taking longer” isn’t about behaviour - it’s about processing speed + working memory.

When we change the environment (add movement, reduce pressure, keep it playful), kids are able to participate, stay engaged, and succeed in ways that feel good to them, just like how we did it in the video 🤍

That’s what neurodiversity-affirming therapy looks like in real life.

“don’t squat at the same time” 🤝😂

Looks funny… but this is actually a great example of how tricky non-verbal communication can be.

So much of communication isn’t just words! It’s timing, body language, reading cues, and knowing when to respond.

For many of our kids, this doesn’t come naturally.
They might:
• miss social cues
• respond at the “wrong” time
• struggle to read body language
• feel unsure when it’s their turn

And what looks like “silly” or “out of sync”… is often just a difference in how they process communication.

During Neurodiversity Awareness Week, it’s a reminder that communication isn’t one-size-fits-all - and sometimes, we just need to slow down, support, and meet kids where they’re at 🤍

At Bite & Babble, we support all forms of communication - spoken, unspoken, and everything in between.
