STRETCH | When can stretching hurt your performance?

⛹️‍♀️ Dynamic stretching warm-up consistently outperforms a static stretch or no warm up before athletic performance - in sprinting, agility, strength, explosive power, repeat efforts and in rate of force production.

🏋️‍♀️ Static stretching is detrimental to athletic performance when used as the main component of your preparation before you perform.

⚽ Your warm-up should look like the sport you're about to play — active, dynamic and progressive - through range & intensity.

If you need help designing a dynamic warm up - ask us or our exercise physiologist colleagues to help you!

🧠 HEADGEAR DOES NOT PREVENT CONCUSSION.

The AFL has endorsed new headgear technology — but the science doesn't support it as concussion prevention.

Leading neuroscientists are concerned.

Insurers have withdrawn coverage for brain injury from May 1.

And the research is clear: headgear protects against cuts, not concussions.

We break down what the evidence actually shows — and what genuinely works to protect players at every level.

🧠 Do you know someone with Parkinson’s?
📺 Do you watch ?

・・・
Today, on World Parkinson’s Disease Day, the APA recognises the many ways Parkinson’s disease (PD) can affect movement, balance, mobility and daily life.

PD is not something that just affects older people. Almost 200,000 people in Australia live with Parkinson’s disease, and 20% are of working age.

Physiotherapy has an important role from the time of diagnosis. Exercise and physiotherapy can support movement, function, confidence and long-term wellbeing.

There is strong evidence that a range of physiotherapy-led exercise approaches can help, including aerobic training, resistance training, balance exercises, treadmill training, aquatic exercise, cueing and movement strategy training, and telerehabilitation.

Today, we acknowledge everyone living with PD and reinforce the importance of timely, evidence-based physiotherapy as part of care.

Two world-leading sports neuroscientists have slammed the AFL’s move to back a new helmet being tested to determine its capacity to reduce “the incidence of concussion”, despite numerous previous studies dismissing headgear’s ability to do so.
