🌈 this happened yesterday above IBA in Kathmandu where we are studying with the 42nd His Holiness Sakya Trizin Ratna Vajra Rinpoche.
The phenomenon is called a rainbow tent, “Gyargyur” is Tibetan word for this.
The law of causality is where science & Buddhism intersect …
From a science perspective, it’s caused by the refraction, reflection and dispersion of light through ice particles suspended within thin, wispy, high altitude cirrus or cirrostratus clouds. As light passes through these hexagon-shaped ice crystals, it is bent at a 22° angle, creating a circular halo around the Sun.
From a Buddhist perspective, it’s seen as an auspicious sign of the realization, birth or death of a great master 💫💫💫
