A venous lake is a harmless vascular lesion seen on exam. It appears as a soft blue-purple spot caused by a dilated vein, usually on sun-exposed areas like the lips, ears, or face.

A key feature is blanching with pressure - the colour fades when gently pressed, helping distinguish it from other lesions.

Under dermoscopy, it looks uniformly blue or purple with no pigment patterns. Biopsy is rarely needed unless the lesion looks unusual.

Differential diagnoses include:
• Blue naevus
• Cherry angioma
• Spider telangiectasis
