Wednesday antics...

If you're focussed on the algorithm, the platform, the trends and the dance, it is fleeting.

We get caught up in what matters less, which steals our time and focus away from what matters more.

Fast and dirty marketing, quantity vs quality using all the tricks in the book and the upcoming tools may not be what you need - if your clients are sick of that s**t, and want something real, purposeful, valued and aligned.

The platforms set the standard for what is trending- but we're not a homogenised world (yet πŸ˜¬πŸ™ƒ). What you think is trending can at the same time be totally cringe (hello recent out-of-touch politician reels).

If your audience is craving a dose of reality that's increasingly being lost from this place - give them that.

Show how your business or service meets their need, rather than just playing the game for likes.

Connect as the human you are, rather than your bot wannabe - remember, we all have a BS meter beneath the surface that notices...

Spring is not far away!

The day the almond tree blooms is one of the quietly anticipated days in my annual calendar - a simple joy that I look forward to every year.

But unlike my kids meticulous countdown to Santa's visit - each year this day usually catches me by pleasant surprise.

The first sign of changes coming. I think the day is nearly here. The birds are very chirpy today, I think they know too πŸ¦πŸ¦œπŸ•Š

We went South for a few days when most go North.

At least Joy hopes ultraprocessed foods don't go away... so she can keep her bigfood job!

Meanwhile, all I want is to buy nutritious minimally processed food that is not laced with poison or pumped with fillers masquerading as food.

The ultimate example of what happens to "science" when it mixes with $$$. This is how we know for sure the guidelines are not a roadmap to health, but for someone else's back pockets.

Just give me real food at the family table, preferably including the nutritious beef this "dietitan" thinks is so bad!!

We can be fooled by the tools, tricks and trends of marketing (especially in social media) - where playing the games they say we need to play will bring us the highs and sometimes the very-very-lows.

We can question the worth of our business - and our very own success - when we focus on vanity metrics decided by the platform, rather than what we are ACTUALLY working towards.

The algorithm is not in your control.
We can't make people see and respond.

But there are absolutely things we can control, playing our own game with our own rules and KPIs.

We can share our message, regularly - but not necessarily every day.
Show who we are.
Demonstrate what we have, what we do.
How we help.
And how to find us -either now, or when the time is right.

When people see your message enough (we really do need it many multiples of times!!), resonate with you, and know how to find you when they need you - this is what your aiming for.

We can do this with free tools and a small budget. Don't be overwhelmed with what you don't have. Use the tools and skills you do have to get your message out there.

Get help if you need it.

A regular organic content strategy, combined with a small ad budget helps gain exposure with new audiences and can be great for a micro business. The word of mouth referral is the perfect outcome - and that's another algorithm you can't control!

We don't need to play all the games - as (in my experience) all or nothing often results in the latter.

Be good at what you do, and show people why they need what you have! That's marketing!

I've been working at the intersection of healthcare and marketing for a few years now.

What I've come to notice is that there can be a bit of a protection racket going on in both areas. The protection of knowledge. The exclusivity of thought.

Where it's frowned upon to "do your own research" in one field - and in the other, there is apparently only a selected few with the keys to THE algorithm.

In truth, we go further when we share more, not less.

After nearly 20 years in Health Promotion and a few more in digital marketing specifically, it's always been a priority of mine to show you what, why, when, who, where- and teach you how- not just do it for you (unless that's what you want).

And I prefer to work with services promoting health literacy (holistic) above compliance.

Today I did a marketing webinar on Storytelling.

This makes sense to me.

The natural way to connect with people. To share, invite, inform... support.

People don't want the stats about why they need you.
They don't want the AI bot for what should be the real work.
They don't want the AI generated photo because you're still in your jammies.
Or the filtered photos which make you unrecognisable in real life.

The latest craze, the must have tools, the headline insights without the understanding.

We are becoming removed from ourselves to find a shiny answer - pretending to know more, be more, have more.

When all we really need is who we are. That's the brand, that's the marketing, and the storytelling is part of how you find your perfect clients.

No bs pretense.

I know AI can be a useful tool, but we're fooling ourselves if we can't see its a crutch that's turning us into the robots.

This is not an aha moment in marketing, but haven't we lost track of what really matters?

Reading some of Thomas Henry Huxley juxtaposed with today, and can confirm many "species of thinking" (including logic, common sense and critical thinking) have sadly succumbed in the struggle for existence!

We discredit the past, thinking new research is best - yet there is so much to learn when we go beyond the current "species of thinking" we are positioned to believe is the only way of thinking today!
