Did you know we reach our peak bone mass density in our late 20's and early 30's?

It is all about preservation to maintain our bones health and prevent osteoporosis.

We get our D3 from the sun - enjoy lots of walks outside
Include calcium from sardines with the bones, tahini, chia seeds and dairy
K2 is sourced from fermented soy bean products like nato, but it is actually produced by our gut bacteria!
Weight bearing exercise encourages our bones to stay strong.

Including grains into our diet brings a valuable source of fibre and nutrients, but they can be very difficult to digest.

By soaking our grains (and even our pulses, nuts and seeds) it helps to remove the 'anti-nutrients' such as phytic acid that can reduce our absorption of nutrients and may also irritate the gut.

This is a great practice for anyone who reacts to grains, or notices any bloating, pain, bowel changes or flatulence after consuming grains.

March is Endometriosis Month.

If you live with Endo, I don't need to tell you what a challenge it is, mentally, physically and spiritually.

There is constantly new research and we are now really starting to understand the complexity of this condition. Endometriosis is an inflammatory and immune condition, and we need to treat it differently to just a hormonal condition.

Do you experience any of these signs? If so, it is worth testing your hormones.

I use Salivary Hormone Testing to test all 3 types of Oestrogen (yes, there are 3 not 1!!) Progesterone, Testosterone and DHEA to gain valuable information of your hormones.

Your period should not be a dreaded part of your life, but a celebration of your feminine essence.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! We want to choose foods that are balanced and full of nutrients to provide our little ones with all the nutrients they need for their busy minds and bodies.

This is what Austin has had for breakfast over the last 5 days. I am so grateful that he loves his food!

I understand the challenges of a fussy eater, it is HARD! Please take some ideas from this and keep exposing. Yes, it takes 20+ times after constant exposure for little ones to have a try. You are doing an amazing job, keep going!

Its hard when our children get sick, how do we best support them?

Its totally normal for children to have 5-6 illnesses a year. What isn't normal is if they take a long to recover and go from one illness to the next.

Some simple daily things we can do to support their immunity:
๐Ÿ‹ Ensure they are getting enough fresh vegetables, fruit and water
๐Ÿ‹ Lemon gummies for vitamin C and boosting immunity
๐Ÿ‹ Add bone broth to meals for all the incredible minerals
๐Ÿ‹ Incorporate vitamin D rich foods such as cod liver oil and egg yolk
๐Ÿ‹ Probiotic rich foods such as yoghurt and milk kefir
๐Ÿ‹ Include zinc rich foods such as beef, cashews, lamb, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, whole grains and egg
๐Ÿ‹ Avoid sugar and processed foods

Breakfast IS the most important meal of the day. Why?

It sets you up for the day - great energy, balanced moods and balanced blood sugar levels, who wouldn't want that!!

Studies have shown that a higher protein breakfast rather than a higher carb breakfast supports blood sugar balance, maintaining a healthy weight and feeling fuller for longer.

Great breakfast ideas include
๐Ÿซ Egg omelette with spinach and mushrooms
๐Ÿซ Berry smoothie with a good quality protein powder
๐Ÿซ Grain free granola with greek yoghurt and berries
๐Ÿซ Sourdough toast topped with smashed avocado and sardines
๐Ÿซ Scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and asparagus

Its lunchbox time again!

Feeding our little ones can be a challenge at times.

I like to approach each meal with this question - how can I supercharge this meal to increase nutrient density?

Some little additions go a long way with providing extra nutrients

Iron Fast Facts -
๐ŸŒฟ 23% of Australian women fail to meet the daily requirements for iron
๐ŸŒฟ Vitamin C and Lactobacillus plantation 299v enhance the absorption of iron, it is best to include these with your iron supplement
๐ŸŒฟ Our bodies uptake iron every 48 hours, it is best for you to take your iron supplements every second day rather than every day
๐ŸŒฟ Ferrous sulphate forms of iron โ€“ cause constipation and actually create free radical damage to cells due to the free iron roaming around. Over the counter formulas contain a LARGE amount of iron which is too much for our body to absorb and therefore we are left with a large amount of free iron. Iron doesnโ€™t like to be free, it wants to be bound to a carrier.
๐ŸŒฟ A therapeutic dose of iron is 24mg and the best form of iron as a supplement is Ferrous Fumarate.
๐ŸŒฟ Coffee, tea and milk decrease iron absorption, so best to avoid
๐ŸŒฟ Meat, fish and poultry contain the well absorbed heme iron. Organic liver is fantastic and easily grated into meals
๐ŸŒฟ Lemon juice squeezed on to leafy greens improves iron absorption
๐ŸŒฟVege sources of iron are tempeh, lentils, nuts, seeds, leafy greens, quinoa, apricots, wheat germ and parsley
