Our highly successful Moorditj Kids home immunisation program is playing an important role in protecting the community.

During the flu season, the program provided more than 540 vaccinations to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and older.

Pop-up clinics also provided vaccinations at relevant Aboriginal community events.

The team has been working in the community to increase awareness and accessibility to its culturally safe immunisation program, to help keep people protected.

The program forms part of our Boorloo (Perth) Public Health Unit.

Well done to all involved 👏

With a variety of nursing opportunities available at Sir Charles Gairdner and Osborne Park Hospitals, registered nurse Sinead shares what she loves about working for the organisation.

Originally working as a nurse in Ireland, Sinead made the decision to book a one-way flight to Australia in 2019.

After working at a number of Australian hospitals beforehand, Sinead initially took up a six-month secondment at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, and has not looked back since.

"After the first week I knew this was the place I wanted to stay," she said. "My ward is a face-paced dynamic environment; we care for people receiving haemodialysis treatment from the frail outpatients to the acutely unwell inpatients.

"The ward has a great deal of very experienced staff that support junior staff to find their feet and management always go out of their way to support you. To be honest, I couldn’t imagine working anywhere else."

SCGH and OPH currently have enrolled and registered nursing positions across a variety of areas and specialities.

Fifteen of our nurses and midwives recently swapped hospital corridors for the fairways at the Annual Nurses Cup.

In total, 95 current and retired nurses and midwives from across the public and private sector of all golfing abilities took part in the annual social golfing competition.

Congratulations to our very own Charles Needham, Staff Development Nurse at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, on winning the non-handicapped players category.

Well done to South Metropolitan Health Service nurse Reece Clack, who won the Nurses Cup.

The event was established by nurse Edith Vetter in 1935.

Edith started her career in paediatrics in 1915 and was later enlisted into service during World War One. Upon her return, she became an avid golfer and supporter of nursing causes.

Well done to all involved!

Today marks Allied Health Professionals Day, a time to recognise the dedication and commitment of our allied health workforce.

We have more than 1,160 allied health professionals working across our sites and services.

They are often the team who surround our patients throughout the long days of rehabilitation and recovery.

They help ensure our patients eat right, move safely, communicate well and remain supported in the community. They also play an important role in undertaking research to support patient outcomes and inform evidence-based practices.

Tonight marks the annual WA Department of Health Excellence in Allied Health Awards night, and we wish our four finalists the best of luck.

You can read more about our finalists here: https://www.nmhs.health.wa.gov.au/News/2025/10/14/Allied-Health-Professionals-Day

Thank you to each and every one of our allied health staff 👏
