Week 3 of Taster Group had participants learning the ins and outs of lawn mowing and whipper snipping 🌿
We wrapped up a great outdoor session with a classic Marc quote: “That wasn’t as bad as I thought!”
He even found the whipper snipping therapeutic! 🙂

🌟 SLES Amazing Race to Independence – Day One! 🌟

Our participants kicked off their community challenge with clues, teamwork, and plenty of real-world skills! 🕵️‍♀️🚶‍♂️

📍 The first clue led them to Nerang Train Station via the What3Words app, then onto public transport and into town to spot five unique local businesses each.

📚 At Nerang Library, they practised greeting staff professionally and hunted down books on volunteering, employment, study — plus a mysterious purple brochure. 💜

🎁 They also created questions for an Inclusive Employment Provider, who rewarded their curiosity with some goodies.

🥗 Lunch became part of the challenge too — picking meals that balanced value, nutrition, and budget.

💡 The day wrapped at the Nerang Neighbourhood Centre, exploring local community services.

👏 Fantastic teamwork and problem-solving all round!
Next week: YouTube reviewers! 🎥🔥

⭐ Giving Back!
This quarter, our SLES group put their creativity and teamwork into planning a Community Food Drive for a local service.

Together, they brainstormed campaign names, designed posters, and set a goal of collecting 75 items to support locals in need. After plenty of discussion and research, the team proudly landed on their campaign name and slogan:

DAYS Community Food Drive
“Hunger slays, so save the DAYS!”

They drafted the first version of their poster, mapped out donation box locations, and planned their social media call-to-action — all before bringing the final project to life, which you may have already seen shared on our page!

Huge effort from everyone involved — amazing collaboration, decision-making, and problem-solving from start to finish. 🙌

🎄 Today, one of our participants explored 20 real customer service scenarios they might face in their new role at Santa’s Photo Stand!
💬 Some scenarios sparked big moral and judgment calls—showing great understanding of responsibilities, boundaries, and how to stay professional in tricky moments.

👏 Awesome insight and preparation for the Christmas season!

👩‍🍳 This week, one of our participants kicked off a new goal—cooking one new meal each week for their family, starting with spinach and ricotta gnocchi!
They compared recipes, chose the best fit for their family, grabbed all the ingredients, and headed home confident and ready to cook.
📋 During their SLES session, they also caught up on group activities—spotting red flags in employment contracts and exploring the PACT website to compare wages and career pathways.
👏 Good luck with dinner—we can’t wait to hear how it turns out!

👕 Taster Life Skills in Action! ✨
This week, our crew took on a Laundry Taster Session, building practical skills for independence at home.

We broke down the steps, explored laundry products at the supermarket 🧴, and visited the local laundromat for a real-world look at machines, prices, and routines — plus a bonus stop at the car wash to check out those powerful pressure washers 🚗

Next week: putting skills to the test with a hands-on laundry challenge — washing, drying, and ironing like pros! 💪
