At Axis Clinic, we have 15 clinicians who offer specialised support through Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. EMDR is a well-established, evidence-based approach designed to help individuals process and resolve distressing memories and experiences.

Originally developed for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), EMDR is also highly effective in addressing a wide range of mental health concerns.

As Cyclone Alfred approaches South East Queensland and Northern NSW, we want to acknowledge preparing for an extreme weather event is not just about physical safety, but also about emotional well-being and resilience.

IN FOCUS: JIGSAW QUEENSLAND INC

Jigsaw Queensland Inc. has been supporting people affected by adoption for 49 years. As a non-profit, member-based organisation, they provide professional and peer support to individuals and the professionals who work with them.
Jigsaw is committed to openness and honesty in adoption, believing that everyone has the potential to communicate in ways that respect each other’s needs and rights. They advocate for informed public policies and practical steps that help strengthen family connections.
Their work extends to all those impacted by adoption, no matter when or where it took place, as well as individuals affected by donor conception. With a deep understanding that access to information and support can be life-changing, Jigsaw prioritises each person’s unique needs, ensuring they receive the guidance and care they deserve.

Axis Clinic has partnered with Jigsaw Queensland to deliver a tailor-made group program for people impacted by forced adoption: Overcoming negative self-talk and learning self-compassion. The program aims to help participants develop their personal practice in self-compassion to address difficulties associated with shame, self-criticism, relational and attachment trauma. It has been created by a team of experienced psychologists here at Axis Clinic and adapted to meet the specific needs of people impacted by forced adoption. Two separate programs will be delivered from February to April 2025.

The face-to-face group will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm to 8.30pm from 19 February to 9 April at Jigsaw Queensland’s office at 505 Bowen Terrace New Farm.

The online group will be held on Thursday evenings from 6.00pm to 8.00pm from 20 February to 10 April.

This exciting opportunity for group healing is funded by the Department of Social Services so participants do not need to pay any fees. You are eligible to participate in this program if you are an adopted person, mother or father who lost a child to adoption during the forced adoption era (1950s to 1980s) in Australia, who resides in Queensland or for whom the adoption took place in Queensland.
