Dr. Abigail’s Chiropractic journey began in high school, where she was involved in a bus accident that left her with intense spinal pain. After undergoing Chiropractic care, she was mesmerized by the immediate changes in her pain, energy and overall function in a short period of time without the use of drugs or surgery. Since then, she has dedicated her whole life to Chiropractic, as she wants as many people to experience what she experienced. Dr. Abigail specialises in the Gonstead Technique of Chiropractic, a thorough and specific approach in finding spinal subluxation aka. the root cause of your dysfunction and symptoms. The goal of the Gonstead Chiropractic is to “do the least to achieve the most”. That’s why a Gonstead Doctor aims to find the problem, correct it, and leave it alone to heal. Dr. Abigail trained to become a Chiropractor in Perth, Western Australia and has worked as a Gonstead Chiropractor ever since. Her fascination and love for Chiropractic continues to grow every day in practice, especially when it comes to topics she is most passionate about including women’s health, paediatrics, scoliosis, chronic injuries, headaches, sport-related injuries and vitalistic care.

**TIPS FOR THE ULTIMATE SLEEPING POSTURE**

Remember...When you sleep, you're not dead! You are still ALIVE and your nervous system is still functioning 24/7, so it is important to be as aware of your sleeping posture as much as your upright posture, so you can get a better quality rest.

When you are sleeping, your spine is orientated in a different position due to gravity, so the use of pillows, rolled towels, a firm mattress & a supportive pillow will assist you in achieving your ultimate sleeping posture.

1) SIDE SLEEPING: Always put a pillow BETWEEN your legs/knee to open up and counteract any rotation of the pelvis/low back. A contoured pillow or rolled towel should be placed on the SIDE curve of the neck for support (See Image Below).

2) BACK SLEEPING: Always put a pillow/s UNDER your knees/thigh to reduce the inward curve (or "lordosis") through the low back. You should feel no gap between your low back and the bed if you're doing this right! Again, a contoured pillow or rolled towel should be placed on the BACK curve of the neck for support (See Image Below).

3) TUMMY SLEEPING: This sleeping posture is usually not advised (some cases are an exception) as it puts a lot of rotation to the neck. I would advise to try the above two positions first. If that still does not work, putting a pillow underneath your pelvis/bellybutton area will help alleviate some pressure from the low back. Again, try to avoid this position if you can!

I hope this information was useful to you! Don't forget that these little adjustments to your posture can make a significant difference to your spine and also to how you feel the next morning!!

It is equally important to understand that getting your spine checked by a chiropractor is essential to further understand your own individualistic spinal needs!!!

Representing New Farm Chiropractic at Trivia night....we have Abby the Chiropractor and Kenny the Massage Therapist!!

Unfortunately, the whole trivia night revolved around the Melbourne Cup, which I knew nothing about, but regardless, I still learned so much!

TIP FOR THE WEEKEND:
Remember, it is worthwhile taking every opportunity to make sure your mind is ACTIVE. Whether it is CONSISTENTLY engaging in activities you enjoy, social experiences, movement/exercise or various environmental stimuli, all of these actions have MANY benefits to your mental well-being.

Try to set these challenges for yourself at work, school, home etc. to keep you focused, active and engaged!!!!

Reminiscing upon last weeks activities...when the whole New Farm Chiropractic Clinic (NFCC) family got OUT of our office gear and INTO our workout gear to participate in a group Reformer Pilates class!

This was the first time I tried Reformer Pilates, and I have to say that I was amazed with how easy it was on the spine and joints, whilst still making my abs, arms, bum (you name it) burrrrnnn!! 🔥🔥

For those of you who are unaware, the Reformer is a bed-like frame with a flat platform (called a carriage) with multiple addons, boards and springs that are used for many kinds of whole body exercises to promote LENGTH, STRENGTH, FLEXIBILITY & BALANCE to the spine and body.

Don't forget to take some time out of your schedule once in a while to attend to your health, whether that be physically, mentally or chemically! Stay tuned for my next video!!! 💪🏽✌🏽

When mom comes to town, there's nothing better than sharing with her the beautiful local produce of Queensland by spoiling her with the delicious, mouth-watering menu of Samson and Sophie cafe in New Farm/Teneriffe!

Don't forget that Chiropractic is based on the premise that the body is able to achieve and maintain health through its own natural and recooperative powers, provided it has a properly functioning nervous system along with these 4 simple health maintenance components:

a) NUTRITION
b) Water
c) Rest
d) Exercise/Movement

Happy Friday everyone!

Here is a setup for an upper back (thoracic spine) adjustment. We use a machine called a "hi-lo" where a patient lies face down and a specific adjustment is delivered from the chiropractor in a back to front (or posterior to anterior) direction with no rotation or twisting!

FUN FACT: Did you know that wayyyy back in 1895, the FIRST chiropractic adjustment ever given helped restore the HEARING of a man named Harvey Lillard?? 17 years beforehand, Harvey felt something in his back give way, and completely lost his hearing until receiving a spinal adjustment by the father/founder/discoverer of Chiropractic, D. D. Palmer!!

What an awesome Pelvic Bench workshop over the weekend conducted by Gonstead Fellow Dr. David Leach, at New Farm Chiropractic Clinic!!

The Pelvic Bench is a very specialised and versatile table used for adjusting primarily the low back (pelvis, sacrum and lumbar spine). Each bench is tailor-made to its owner and is made of a dense foam-like material covered with a durable cloth fabric to ensure the patient gets a specific, gentle spinal correction with no slippage.

Thank you, Dr. Dave for reminding us of the importance of this remarkable piece of equipment and how we use it to correct spinal subluxation!!

My latest read 😍🙏🏽
📚"The Brain's Way of Healing"
by Norman Doidge MD📚

For hundreds of years, it has been taught that the brain was NOT able to restore or repair itself once it lost its function (due to disease, aging, trauma, etc).
HOWEVER, this book shows that the reverse is true....that the brain is "neuroplastic"- meaning that it CAN CHANGE its own structure and function in response to certain activities- mental and physical.

It is amazing to read about this most important neurological development since the beginning of modern science, and what it means for Chiropractic! What a breakthrough!!
