As a cosmetic physician, I often get asked what I use on my own skin.

While this is my routine, no one should copy and paste anyone else's routine.

What works for one person may not be appropriate for another.

If you’re looking for a routine tailored to your skin, a consultation with a qualified skin or medical professional can help determine what’s suitable for you.

A comprehensive consultation with a registered health practitioner is essential prior to any procedure, ensuring a clear understanding of suitability, risks, potential outcomes, and aftercare requirements. All non-surgical cosmetic procedures carry inherent risks and possible side effects, which may vary depending on the treatment, products used, and the individual.

Skincare is important, but skin health is influenced by more than products alone.

Lifestyle factors that increase free radicals may play a role in how skin ages over time.

These include:

➡️ Smoking
➡️ Alcohol
➡️ Poor sleep

Free radicals are high-energy particles that damage existing structures in the body, including collagen.

The counter? Antioxidants: both those produced naturally by the body and those obtained through diet and skincare, help counterbalance this process.

Understanding how to manage that balance is an important part of supporting skin health over time.

What I think the cosmetic industry often gets wrong about ageing... 💭

Ageing is frequently framed as something to resist or reverse.

In reality, it’s a normal biological process that affects every system in the body, including the skin.

In my view, the goal isn’t to stop ageing. It’s to support how the skin and underlying structures change over time. That requires a more nuanced approach than focusing on correction alone.

Supporting skin health starts with foundations such as sleep, nutrition, movement, sun protection, and skincare. In-clinic treatments can play a role, but they tend to be most effective when these fundamentals are also addressed.

This perspective shifts the focus from reacting to visible changes to understanding skin biology and making informed, preventative decisions earlier where appropriate.

Not all cosmetic treatments are about changing how you look.

In my practice, the priority is supporting skin health; because healthy skin underpins any meaningful, long-term aesthetic outcome.

When treatments are selected with skin biology in mind, changes tend to be more measured, functional, and consistent with natural variation over time.

In my next newsletter, I’m breaking down the science behind energy-based devices and how they interact with different layers of the skin to address specific concerns.

Inflammation isn't always bad - it's your immune system doing its job.

The problem is when it becomes chronic.

Chronic inflammation may accelerate collagen breakdown faster than normal ageing. And certain lifestyle factors make it worse.

If you're investing in collagen-building treatments but ignoring what breaks it down, you're working against yourself.

Each fortnight I write a deep-dive email, breaking down the science behind your skin and ageing well.

I didn’t plan to become a cosmetic physician.

I originally thought I’d pursue plastic surgery, before spending several years working in emergency medicine.

I later moved into general practice, where I developed a strong interest in skin health, which ultimately led me into cosmetic medicine.

Seven years on, I value being able to support patients through considered, evidence-based treatment planning that respects individuality and natural variation.

I think a lot of people walk in expecting to be immediately upsold on treatments. But that's not how I work.

A first consultation is about gathering information. I need to understand your skin's history, what's happening beneath the surface, and most importantly, what your actual concerns are.

Because what I see as the main issue might not be what's bothering you.

From there, we create a plan that addresses your skin at multiple levels: the surface changes, the structural shifts, and how your facial muscles are affecting things.

Sometimes that plan includes treatments. And sometimes... I'll tell you that what you're asking for isn't right for you.

The goal isn't to sell you on procedures. It's to help you age well in a way that feels right for your face.

You can't stop ageing, but you can change how you age.

When it comes to collagen, the strategy is two-fold:
1️⃣ Protect what you have
2️⃣ Stimulate new collagen

The best results come from doing both.

Ageing isn't one thing - it's three things happening at once:

1️⃣ Structural changes
2️⃣ Skin changes
3️⃣ Muscle changes

Understanding all three allows me to build a treatment plan that makes a real difference for my patients, while keeping the result looking natural.

Every treatment plan begins with an in-depth consultation.
