Over the weekend, we gathered as a community at our New Gisborne Residential Aged Care Facility to honour and reflect on the service and sacrifice of those who have served our country.
We were privileged to recognise several members of our community who played a meaningful role in the service.
Joan Turner laid the wreath in honour of her late husband, John, who served in the Australian Air Force.
Resident John Bowhill delivered a reading. John served in the Royal Air Force through National Service in England.
David Parrôt, a resident within our community, served as Master of Ceremonies. David served in the Vietnam War in 1968 with the Australian Army.
We acknowledge Gayle Moore, who shared her family’s history of service. Her father-in-law served in World War II, her uncle served in the Boer War in South Africa, and her great-uncle served in World War I.
We were also honoured to hear from Jayden, a local Army Cadet, who delivered a reading as part of the service. Jayden aspires to serve, drawing inspiration from his family’s military history. Jayden appreciated being included in the ANZAC service and the opportunity to connect with our residents.
We extend our sincere thanks to all who have served, and to those who continue to carry their legacy.
Lest we forget. 🌺
