If you're experiencing painful and clotty periods, it can indeed be a potential sign of endometriosis. It's important to remember that endometriosis can manifest in mild to severe stages, and the intensity of your pain doesn't always directly reflect the severity of the condition itself.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), endometriosis is understood as a condition of "blood stasis." Our approach to treatment focuses on clearing this stasis to restore healthy blood flow to the pelvic region. This often involves the use of herbal remedies, which I typically prescribe in convenient pill or capsule form, alongside regular acupuncture sessions.

Through my clinical observations, I've noted that some clients may present with normal cycle lengths (around 28 days), mild to moderate pain, and normal blood test results, yet still face challenges with conception or experience repeated IVF failures. My primary goal in treating endometriosis is to promote a healthier uterine environment. By improving this environment, we aim to increase your chances of natural conception or successful IVF outcomes.

Even with the "best protocol" in IVF, an inflammatory uterine environment can unfortunately lead to unsuccessful results. Therefore, I often recommend preparing your uterine environment for at least a couple of months. We consider the uterus to be the home for an embryo for the next twelve months, so it is paramount that we prepare this environment to be as favorable as possible for successful implantation and growth.

A significant number of the fertility issues I encounter in my clinic appear to originate from defects during the follicular phase. This phase is crucial for the development of healthy ovarian follicles, the egg, and the uterine lining, and problems here directly impact the chances of conception.
I consistently ask my clients about the following key indicators, as they often reflect what is happening during the follicular phase:
- Cervical mucus quality
- Regularity of ovulation
- Presence of ovulation pain or bleeding
- Period characteristics

By thoroughly assessing these indicators, I aim to gain a comprehensive understanding of my clients' follicular phase health and tailor appropriate support.

It's common for individuals experiencing shoulder pain to find their symptoms worsen at night, often due to sleeping positions that can exacerbate the condition. I frequently use improvements in nighttime comfort as a key indicator to measure our treatment progress. Clients often report improvements in their sleep quality, experiencing fewer awakenings due to pain. This feedback is invaluable in assessing the effectiveness of our approach and making any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan.

If you have missed three or more consecutive periods, or if your menstrual cycle has become very irregular, it is highly recommended to consult with your medical doctor for a thorough investigation. There are various potential causes for amenorrhoea (the absence of menstruation), and it's important to rule out any underlying medical conditions.

In some instances, particularly with Functional Hypothalamic Amenorrhoea (FHA), your ultrasound findings may appear normal, and hormone levels such as FSH, LH, and oestrogen might be low or low-normal. I often hear from clients who have experienced significant stressful events leading up to their episodes of amenorrhoea, with medical tests not providing a clear explanation.

This can sometimes be due to your body being in a state of stress or "survival mode," where the brain prioritizes essential functions over reproduction.

Acupuncture can serve as a supportive therapy to help restore your body's natural rhythm and balance. Alongside acupuncture, focusing on establishing a regular biological rhythm—including consistent sleep-wake cycles and eating patterns—is crucial for supporting your body's recovery.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or would like to discuss how acupuncture could specifically support your health journey.

Knee pain is a very common presentation in my practice, especially among clients who have not found significant relief through other treatment modalities.

When treating knee pain, my primary focus is to resolve any fluid accumulation or swelling. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), all types of pain are understood to result from a blockage in the body's natural flow. In the case of knee swelling, the accumulated fluid acts as a major roadblock, hindering the lymphatic system's ability to clear inflammation and preventing essential nutrients from reaching tissues that require repair.

A key structural challenge with the knee is its naturally lower blood circulation (lack of vascularization). This means the knee can often take longer to heal and is more prone to developing chronic pain.

Given these factors, seeking early intervention and maintaining regular treatment are often the most effective ways to manage knee conditions and achieve better long-term outcomes.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to discuss how we can best support your knee health.

What a joy it was to meet the little one of one of my clients recently. She has such a beautiful smile; it truly lit up the whole treatment room! She has a cute little belly too.
From a Chinese medicine perspective, it's common for children to have a more rounded shape because of their abundant Yang energy. The Yin (which includes flesh, blood, and fluids) must be abundant to support this Yang, which is why younger children often appear chubbier for good reason! The wonders of the human body.

A trigger finger is a condition where one of your fingers or your thumb catches or locks when you try to bend it. Acupuncture can be a beneficial treatment option without necessarily resorting to invasive procedures.

I often work with individuals who have explored various treatment modalities without significant relief and are keen to avoid surgical intervention. In my experience, early intervention is generally more effective.

Stiffness, especially in the morning, is a common initial symptom of trigger finger.

If you or someone you know is experiencing symptoms of trigger finger, I encourage you to consider seeking treatment sooner rather than later. An early assessment can help identify the most appropriate course of action, potentially alleviating discomfort and preventing the condition from worsening.✌️

Many individuals I see for Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) have already explored common remedies, including various forms of massage, exercise, and supplements like magnesium. While these approaches are undoubtedly beneficial for improving circulation and overall well-being, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) delves deeper by identifying particular patterns within each individual to address the root cause of their RLS. This personalized approach allows us to tailor treatments that go beyond symptomatic relief, aiming to restore balance.
If you or someone you know is struggling with RLS and looking for an alternative approach, I would be happy to discuss how TCM could offer a different path to relief.

Many women consider premenstrual symptoms (PMS) to be an unavoidable aspect of their monthly cycle, with up to 80% experiencing discomfort and often not seeking treatment due to the belief that nothing can be done. However, in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), if premenstrual symptoms are more than mild, they are viewed as an abnormal pattern that disrupts the smooth transition between the different phases of the menstrual cycle. This can also affect the follicular phase, just before ovulation, which can impact the ovulation process itself.
At Ripple Acupuncture, we address these patterns by focusing on restoring the overall balance of the individual's body. We believe that a woman's monthly period serves as a vital indicator of her general health. Therefore, I always inquire about menstrual status with all female clients, regardless of their primary concern, to gain a comprehensive understanding of their well-being.
If you are experiencing premenstrual symptoms or have concerns about your menstrual health, please do not hesitate to contact us. We would be happy to discuss how TCM can help support your body's natural balance.🌺
