πŸ’»πŸ€πŸ“±Day 2 of Seniors Week: Generations Connect πŸ’»πŸ€πŸ“±

For the past eight weeks, a group of our lovely residents have been meeting up with students from the Indie School New Norfolk for a weekly program called Generations Connect: Tech Together which aims to create new connections and exchange skills.

Today was the last day of the program and the team at COTA (Council On The Ageing) Tasmania hosted a special celebration to mark the occasion. Everyone enjoyed making paper airplanes, sharing stories, and eating some yummy treats. Towards the end of the event, the organisers presented a film about the program and featuring reflections from residents and students across Tasmania.

After the film ended, participants were handed certificates of completion featuring photos of the Corumbene resident and Indie School student buddy duos together.

Each person was then given a moment to share their favourite part of the past eight weeks. Many people said the connections and friendships they made were the most memorable moments from their time. Some reflected that they felt they learnt a lot about technology and aging that made them want to volunteer even more. Corumbene resident Edna said she really enjoyed the program but warned everyone that their lives aren't in their phones.

πŸ₯£πŸ² Day 1 of Seniors Week: Connecting Through Food πŸ₯£πŸ²

To kick off the first day of COTA (Council On The Ageing) Tasmania Seniors Week, our residents and staff members shared a delicious lunch in the Country Kitchen.

When everyone arrived at the table, there was warm garlic bread already wafting its yummy scent down the hallway. Each person got to choose between chicken and vegetable soup or beef and vegetable soup on such a cold spring day. The fan favourite amongst the group was clearly the chicken option.

For dessert, everyone got to have a piece of black cherry pudding freshly baked in the Country Kitchen oven.

πŸ“ Corrections and Updates to Latest Corumbene Connect Issue πŸ“

We would like to issue an apology as we found there was an error in the latest issue of Corumbene Connect. On the "Upcoming Events" page it stated that the Corumbene Annual General Meeting would be held on the 28th of October, however the correct date is the 27th. It will still be at 6pm at Eve & Co Coffee House, but the correct date is Monday, the 27th of October.

Furthermore, the Pensioners Association has moved their monthly meeting to the 30th of October due to the public holiday on the 23rd. It will still be held at 11am at the New Norfolk RSL Function Room.

Apologies for this error and we hope this hasn't inconvenienced anyone.

You can find the latest corrected issue of Corumbene Connect on our website.

πŸ’•πŸ€— Happy National Carers Day πŸ’•πŸ€—

Whether you are a relative, friend, or helper, carers are some of the most important and often overlooked people when it comes to aged care.

Today, we want to honour those who care for the ones we love. Take some time out of your busy day and send a message, note, card, or hug to someone to those who help care for people.

πŸ‘πŸ§ΆCrocheting for Corumbene πŸ‘πŸ§Ά

Lexi, a New Norfolk local, recently came by Corumbene and donated bags and bags of handmade blankets which she personally crocheted. She has been crocheting them since Covid and wasn't sure what to do with them, so she thought, why not donate them to the residents of Corumbene?

Our staff and residents were overwhelmed when they saw the 28 blankets in various sizes and wanted to thank her for her generosity by sending her a card and gift which she was very thankful for.

Thank you Lexi! We hope to see you again soon πŸ₯°
