A great program designed to help you, help your teens. And run by the fantastic David Bakker. Contact Archer Street for more information.

Exciting news! Clinical Psychologist Dr David Bakker will be running the well renowned Tuning into Teens group parenting programme! 👏

Tuning in to Teens is a parenting program that helps parents recognise, understand and respond to their teenager’s emotions, which in turn helps them manage their own emotions. Tuning into Teens shows you how to help your teen develop emotional intelligence. Adolescents with higher emotional intelligence:

👉Are more aware, assertive and strong in situations of peer pressure.

👉Have greater success with making friends and are more able to manage conflict with peers

👉Are more able to cope when upset or angry

👉Have fewer mental health and substance abuse difficulties

👉Have more stable and satisfying relationships as adults

👉Have greater academic and career success

Groups will be run out of hours, and one or both parents are welcome to attend. If you’re on a mental health care plan Medicare rebates apply, private health funds rebates may be available too depending on your fund.

What a great reminder of the benefits of considering what baby might be thinking and feeling as they navigate this new world they have found themselves in.

Speaking for the Baby Campaign

‘Hard’ experiences remind baby that they are a separate little being from you and that they exist in a ‘cold hard world’. Being undressed for a bath or nappy change are examples of hard experiences. Being left alone to sleep might also raise their feelings of separateness. Hard experiences are necessary for your baby to learn they are a separate being who is able to develop as a unique little person alongside you. While these hard experiences are necessary, your baby needs help to navigate them with success. They need your warm soft approach when they are experiencing the cold hard world. At these times, you will be side-by-side rather than ‘as one’, but you can remain in the soft warm parental position. Help them by staying connected through touch, through your reassuring voice and connecting with kind eyes.
Both soft and hard experiences – at oneness and separateness – are the early beginnings of developing an attachment relationship that fosters both intimacy and autonomy for babies.
