This is an (updated) repost from last year as I think there is no better time to discuss navigating nutrition misinformation on social media 📲

When viewing ANY information on social media (not just nutrition-related) ask yourself:

👩🏻‍⚕️ Is the person making these claims qualified?
➡️ A gynaecologist or psychiatrist aren’t experts in nutrition advice. But nor are fitness influencers with 100k followers who are lean and have done a bodybuilding show. Be wary of who you are taking nutrition advice from, otherwise take it with a grain of salt. Seek advice from dietitians, registered nutritionists, and food scientists.

💸 Is the person making these claims backed by $$$?
➡️ If someone is telling you that you need a supplement to fix [insert xyz generic issues like bloating] this is a big red flag. You should question whether someone has your best interestings in mind or if they’re just trying to sell a product to you.

📚 Is the person citing a reliable source?
➡️ This can get tricky, but many individuals (like Paul Saladino) will cherrypick particular studies or case studies, not meta-analyses or systematic reviews. You cannot draw conclusions from just the title of a study!

Hi, I’m Kai and I’m a nutritionist doing my masters in nutrition and even for me, my nutrition isn’t “perfect” 🫶🏻

Why? Well first of all “perfect” nutrition doesn’t really exist… 🤷🏻‍♀️

But secondly, I struggle a lot with my mental health - depression, OCD, ADHD, ASD and a motor tic disorder. These all impact my nutrition in different ways, and its taken me a while to learn how to develop strategies that work for me 🤝🏻

Because basic bitch ass macro tracking and super rigid meal plans are not my vibe… they might work for some, but certainly not for me! 😬

And if you ever need help with your nutrition (and training) and want help from someone with lived experience who can understand you and not provide you with a cookie cutter plan, thats what I’m here for 🖤

Sharing a few client meal highlights from the last few weeks 😋

Protein ✅
Carbs ✅
Healthy fats ✅
Fibre ✅
Micros ✅
Food diversity ✅
Balanced eating approach ✅

Because thats what we’re all about. Not “personalised macros” or cookie cutter bodybuilding-style meal plans… But a balanced eating approach that focuses on food diversity and education, not restriction and fear 🥑🍓🥯🍝🍫

I feel like I could make a 10 part series about this! But here are 4 things that the fitness industry and coaches really need to stop doing…

💊 Vilifying the use of medications. Sorry but ginger and ashwaghanda isn’t helping manage my mental health or neurological disorderss. Please stop acting like it will.

🥦 Claiming dietitians and nutritionists are full of s**t because they are sponsored by “big food” (lol). Ironic, as often this is them trying to achieve some perceived authority from being unqualified/unregistered, while simultaneously taking sketchy supplement sponsorships…

🙄 Being fatphobic af. Because we should know by now that “looking” healthy and having abs does NOT equal being healthy. I always got the most compliments in my thinnest body (which was far from the healthiest) and got treated very differently when I was in a larger body. Judging others and their bodies or thinking you’re better sure isn’t a healthy way to live. And trying to shame people and make them feel bad about their bodies so you can sell a program is icky af.

📱 Not fact checking before you post. Quit amplifying misinformation and adding fuel to the fire of alarmist claims on social media.

What gives you the ick about the industry right now? Let me know below 💬

Need some snacky snack inspo? I’ve got you! 😋

My fav snacks (and snack combos) at the moment are:
🥕 Fantastic delites, carrot sticks, and cucumber sticks with cottage cheese and hommus
🍌 A rokeby shake with a muesli bar and piece of fruit
🥑 Multigrain corn thins with chili tuna, avocado and I also love adding some finely chopped cucumber and roasted kewpie dressing!

What are your favourite snacks at the moment? Let me know below 💬

Tbh I feel like all these things are normal, especially for someone my age… but I’m aware there will always be judgement around these things!

So I’m not afraid to admit that…

✨ I still freak out about whether I’m on the right career path or not
✨ I don’t want kids (and no I won’t change my mind)
✨ I’ve never had a massive group of friends, I keep my circle small
✨ It’s only really this year that I’ve felt on top of budgeting, finances etc. (especially after transitioning from being a PhD student on a stipend also doing casual work to being a small business owner). I thank frontal lobe development for this lol
✨ I still enjoy “childish” things like Sanrio and cute toys (Sanrio Puroland was my version of Disneyland)
✨ I simultaneously feel old and young… like theres so much more of life to experience but also like I’m falling behind

Do you relate to any of these? 🫶🏻🤍
