I started working in “community care” 22 years ago, in:
2000 as a casual residential youth support worker, case manager and Team Leader.
2003 as a Mental Health worker.
2005 as an Aged Care & Disability Team Leader, and Region Manager.
2012 as a Disability Coordinator.
2014 as a Foster Care Case Worker. Having worked in the different roles and in different sectors of “community care”, I have seen
a lot of positive and impactful changes. It is great that participants, consumers, carers, and family members are now able to achieve independence and choices. However, one thing I am saddened by, is somewhere along way we have dropped “community” from care. The industry is becoming more fragmented, and a high number of individuals, especially new people are finding it difficult and exhausting to connect with service providers let alone accessing services.
