Picaluna Newcastle

Picaluna Newcastle We are a team of compassionate funeral directors, planners & celebrants. Please feel free to get in touch to find out more. Are we Funeral Directors?

We take pride in looking after people in their time of mourning and guiding you gently through a time that many find challenging. We create inspirational, affordable and authentic farewells that pay tribute to a life lived. We tailor everything we do to suit families' needs, rather than force them to conform to the rigid practices of an industry that's slow to evolve. The Picaluna process is under

pinned by 100% price transparency, plus the donation of 5% of our profits to a charity of choice. Yes and no is answer to this question. Whilst Picaluna is a business that offers a better way for family and friends to say goodbye to the people they love, we still perform all of the tasks involved in the funeral. The only difference is that we don’t actually have any physical locations or infrastructure (i.e. chapels, hearses, mortuaries, offices etc). We are a network of compassionate celebrants, professional planners and wonderful service providers such as florists, stationary providers, mortuaries, hearse and limousine companies, coffin suppliers, cemeteries and crematorium. How much does a Picaluna funeral cost? Due to the fact that we have lower overhead costs compared to typical industry businesses, our customers tell us that we’re about 20 to 30% more affordable than quotes they’ve received from other funeral directors. Having said that, the price of an average Picaluna funeral involving a cremation, is approximately $8,500. Picaluna’s business model is based on 100% price transparency, we have no hidden charges or markups, rather opting for a flat 35% service fee on top of the funeral costs. Someone I know is dying; what should I do? Pick up the phone and call Cheryl on 0437 895 328, or after hours 9191 5006; we will discuss all your options and guide you every step of the way. We will give you the comfort, reassurance & compassion you need in this difficult time.

𝐇𝐔𝐌𝐀𝐍 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐈𝐍 𝐀𝐔𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐀 𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄

Well, there there's some good and bad news.

While 'Natural organic reduction' is legal and available in quite a few states in the US, there's still a long way to go here in Australia. The process is defined in Washington State law as "the contained, accelerated conversion of human remains into soil".

NSW government policymakers are currently looking at human composting/natural organic reduction from a legislative point of view. They're trying to work out if the current law would accommodate it or if the regulations would need to be changed. So, while human composting may be a while off yet, the NSW Govt is getting on the front foot.

Disappointingly, a project focusing on exploring alternative burial and cremation practices here in Australia was recently unsuccessful in its grant application to CRC-P (Cooperative Research Centres Projects).

The proposed project was a collaboration between Austeng (a Geelong engineering company) and Melbourne Uni's DeathTech Research Team. It would have included attitudinal surveys to gauge public perceptions of body disposal alternatives, as well as field trials – specifically, human composting – to assess environmental impact, technological feasibility, and cost-efficiency.

It's a real bummer that the funding wasn't granted. Hopefully, there'll be better outcomes in other funding rounds and grant opportunities. So, rest assured, there are people working hard to explore the feasibility of human composting here in Australia.

Of course, if you're hopeful and it's your preferred option, write your wishes down in The Bottom Drawer Book. https://thebottomdrawerbook.com.au/
