Part 3. Of my current storyline. Here's a photo of me with the original Wilson. A joey wombat. In my book Wilson says "What if...?" He's the narrator.

❤️
Me and Wilson.

It's an old photo but I love it...because it's a moment in time that changed my life.

Although I grew up in the country and have seen plenty of kangaroos in my time ( in the bush and sadly dead by the roadside)...I'd never had anything to do with wombats. Before the day this photo was taken.

Back then...I was working at a theme park that had an Australian wildlife park attached. As a publicist for the park, I was constantly popping in and out talking to the trained wildlife carers.

On this day...we had our first ever wombat in. A joey who's mum had been hit and killed by a car.
One of the carers said...would you like to hold him? His name is Wilson. ❤️

This launched my love of wombats. Like all Australian native animals...they are precious and should not be taken for granted. They need our respect and protection.

So in my latest book...Wilson says "What if...?" I included short tips on how we can all help wombats...and our wildlife. Because I believe we're all part of the solution.

Thanks for reading 📚 😀 🙏

Meet my book consultant - my youngest niece. This is part 2 of my 'they' say you should never work with children or animals. I work with both.

This little hoo man is my secret ingredient in the creation of Wilson says "What if...?"

❤️

Meet my youngest niece. She's smart, kind, clever, emotionally intelligent, and has a strong respect and connection to nature. She's also an avid reader. If you walk into her bedroom you have to look beyond 3 large book shelves, before you see her bed.

All of these things made her perfect 🥰 to test my book concept and words on.

So I 'hired' her ( with the promise of payment in gelato). She was 12.

We sat on the back porch steps of my mum's renovated workers cottage in Newcastle, side by side...to discuss my book. I gave her full permission to tell me if something wasn't right for my target readers...and to let me know if the words and ideas didn't resonate.

She told me certain things sounded like a parent was talking. So I took those words out. She gave me insight into what the target market think about certain things. And she advised on certain words that were too adult sounding for the book. So I adjusted them.

An hour later, I had a much more rounded product. With words more appropriate for the audience I was trying to speak with.

Such a great lesson in listening to children...with an open heart and mind. An experience that I will remember for a lifetime.

I highly recommend it.

❤️

Wilson says "What if...?" Is a concept and book that evolved from the adult book I published a year prior...What if? How to reframe challenges into growth opportunities.

Without my niece's input, I don't think Wilson would resonate as much as he is.

'They' say you shouldn't work with animals or children. I work with both! Story part 1.

Meet my friend Sake ( I call him Sar-key).

He is the most adorable male Corgi ...and when I see him, its the highlight of my morning. I think ( in part) because he is like a dog version of a Wombat. He's pretty photogenic...don't you think?

When I was little I wanted a Corgi ( because our neighbours had one). Now I think...maybe I was manifesting wombats...ha ha...

When I went to Western Australia recently, I wasn't expecting to find 😅 wombats. Because my research shows that most types are found in south eastern Australia ( NSW, southern QLD, Tassie). But WA was to prove me wrong....

On day 2 of my Margaret River visit..I went to ...which was next level beautiful. First few photos taken there. Check out the rays of light on me when I came out... 🌈 🌈 🌈

Then when I went to the gift shop...I spoke to a beautiful guide called Ocean ( her real name)...and she said if you're into wombats...you need to go to because they've found bones of an ancient wombat's relative there...

So I went the next day.

Mammoth Cave..as the name suggests...is huge. And a must visit if you're into caves, palentology and wombats...like me. There are bones of so many ancient natives in it...including the Tasmanian Devil, Tasmanian Tiger...and a relative of the wombats.

❤️ no sound on this one...so you can listen to the birds in the bush near the cave entrance

25 years ago I fell in love with a orhan wombat joey. His name was Wilson.

So when I decided to write a book about a wise wombat...I knew the hero of my story needed to be based on a Blue Mountains wombat called Wilson.

Creating a book largely from..intuition...Wilson says 'What if...?' Has been well received with under 12s and the adults 😉 who read it ( under the guise of reading it with their special little hoo mans).

It's early days ( only launched end of November)...but I will be forever grateful to all the wonderful independents and locals who are supporting it. And I've just topped up books at the following stores...so please support these businesses if you can...

This year I'm trying to remind myself to do monthly reminders to self. So here's my highlights from Marvellous March. A tad late because I've been sick recently.

My favourites include...

❤️ Lots of time in nature...

❤️ visit to Western Australia ( one of my former homes) ....lots of beautiful sunsets, catchup with friends, and beach visits including Cottesloe, Mandurah, Yallingup, Margaret River and Augusta

❤️ Wilson making his debut in Yallingup and Margaret River 👏

❤️ visitors centre in Katoomba ( this is the VC at the Three Sisterslookout)...taking Wilson books...

Oh yeah...and the ❤️ airing of my guest appearance on on 31 March ( which you can watch on SBS on demand 😀)...

Celebrating the 🏆 wins. Hope you do too.

Belated happy Easter to everyone. I've just got back to the Blue Mountains and it is quite different to Western Australia. Cold, wet, green. But ohhhh so beautiful 😍

Popped into the iconic visitors centre at the Three Sisters in Katoomba...to check on Wilson. I'm VERY excited to say that after only 2 x weeks...it's almost sold out of copies. Two left as of this am. Pop in today if you're in the area...before they sell out.

I'm super passionate about building respect and protection for nature...for our environment...and all the amazing creatures that reside in our incredible planet. And im particularly passionate about helping build the connection with nature in our young ones...the decision makers of our future.

But I know kids need support and education...to help connect with nature...to understand what's at risk if we don't each play our part to protect nature. This is particularly the case for city kids without country connections.

So with this in mind, I loved seeing the latest updates to the dolphin 🐬 research centre in Bunbury, Western Australia. It's one of my favourite spots to visit...I used to come here regularly...and I've swum with the dolphins here on numerous occasions.

The centre now has an interactive inside playground purpose-built for under 10 year olds. In this special kids area...they can do colour ins, play with dolphin 🐬 and mermaid 🧜‍♀️ stuffed toys, watch short films, and ask questions of the centre educators. 😀 Throughout the centre there's plenty of educational info for all age groups. Plus a 360 thetre room to watch wild dolphins play snd interact.

Kudos to the team at the in for creating this beautiful space.

Well worth a visit...2 hrs south of Perth in WesternAustralia.

and you would LOVE this place..

PS. This is not a paid post. But if you're reading this...I'm available for hire 😂

The system, like , is one I have studied and admired for a very long time. As a journalist, I investigated and wrote about both...years ago when I was introduced to them in Perth, Western Australia.

Both school's philosophy focus on recognising the uniqueness of the individual child, building kindness.. and connection to Self and others. Steiner also has a big focus on connection to nature. Most lessons have a blend of indoors and outdoors time, with classroom education often held in nature...working with nature to demonstrate the lessons.

Soooo...I'm very happy to let 😊 you know that Wilson says 'What if...?' Is now in Steiner School. I suspect Wilson will resonate with everyone who reads this book.

PS. Last photo is to show you the natural setting of the school. It's a wonderful bush area, with plenty of trees.
