Guigen Qigong is a medical Qigong practice, helping the body to come back to its natural state, restoring health and wellbeing to the whole body. A big reminder for me to practice this wonderful set more often hit me hard, I did not listen to the whispers, I had to wait for my body to scream. I am always reminding my students to listen to what their body needs, sometimes it will say rest, lesson learnt 😊
Guigen means returning to the origin, the Guigen practice is designed to connect you to the natural energy of the universe and return you to a balanced state in your body and mind, working in unison with the 5 elements or phases. This medical Qigong practice was developed in the early 1990s by Dr Xu Hongtao, a professor and researcher at Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
The Guigen Qigong set has six sections. The first, Holistic Regulating, aims to balance Qi by addressing excess in the upper body and deficiency in the lower body. Sections two to six align with the Five Elements and their associated Zang and Fu organs.
Earth – Spleen & Stomach
Metal – Lungs & Large Intestines
Water – Kidney and Bladder
Wood – Liver & Gall Bladder
Fire – Heart, Pericardium & Small Intestines (Sanjiao/triple heater) - emotions of excess joy and excitement
Zang organs (Yin) Heart, Liver, Spleen, Lung, and Kidneys, these are for storing vital substances like Qi, blood, and essence.
Fu Organs (Yang) Gallbladder, Stomach, Small Intestine, Large Intestine, Urinary Bladder, and Sanjiao, these are responsible for processing and eliminating substances.
