Once registered, print your personal barcode which you can bring along each week to record a finish time. You can use the same barcode at any of the 1000+ parkrun locations worldwide. But remember: "no barcode, no result" - please bring a copy of your barcode, either printed, or on your phone. Arrive before 7.50am for a "first-timers" brief and we’ll give you the full “run” down in person. parkrun is totally free, and we welcome you to volunteer during the year. Things to Note

- The Beaches is not a stroller-friendly course due to the sand
- The Beaches is not a dog-friendly course due to Council rules
- No bikes or scooters are permitted at any parkrun
- Children are welcomed but absolutely must be accompanied by an adult if aged under 11

**found barcode scanner, thank you!** We still need a photographer.

Hi & fans - we do need a barcode scanner as an essential volunteer. We have core roles that must be filled before we can start, so please get in touch if you would like to have a chat on the sand with us

This is a call out for future volunteers - this coming week we need:
* barcode scanner
* photographer

And you can see plenty of opportunities coming up in these early weeks of the cool season - maybe try rigging up and volunteering on the sand 💪

Thank you to this week’s volunteers:
Vicki, Michael, Paige, Claudia, Lee, Ruby, Matt, Gerald, Mark, Manfred, Amanda, Sonja, & Peter ❤️

The Beaches parkrun
Event number 524
23rd May 2026

This week 57 people ran, jogged and walked the course. 18 were first timers, with 3 doing their very first parkrun. 8 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 10 different clubs took part.

We welcomed visitors from Christchurch, Yeppoon, Canberra, Taree, Laurieton, Fingal Bay, and Newy 🌏

The rain was cold, and the wind was blowing but the sand was firm. 3 laps made it social. I hope you didn't get dizzy 🌀

One of our runners rescued a baby Port Jackson shark that had washed up onto the sand. He picked him up and walked him into the water before he swum off 🦈

The event was made possible by 12 volunteers ❤️:
Vicki WELLER • Amanda Elizabeth RYAN • Lee GRANT • Manfred VON APPEN • Peter POHLMAN • Gerald FROGLEY • Mark GRAY • Michael SHARPE • Ruby GRANT • Matt DONNELLY • Paige JONES • Claudia KUKAS

Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the The Beaches parkrun Results Page.

The Beaches parkrun started on 29th November 2014. Since then 6,751 participants have completed 26,976 parkruns covering a total distance of 134,880 km, including 2,855 new Personal Bests. A total of 869 individuals have volunteered 5,088 times.

Our beach is getting a regular patrol through Winter! Read more below :)

We're making a change to our winter beach patrol locations to keep everyone safer in the water 💙

From today, our Merewether Beach patrol will relocate to Dixon Park Beach where winter water conditions are safer and more consistent.

Why aren’t all beaches patrolled year-round?

Winter conditions can make some beaches, like Merewether, far more hazardous, with stronger rips, larger surf and unpredictable shore breaks. Concentrating patrols at safer locations allows our lifeguards to maintain the highest level of surveillance and emergency response capability, and our community to have a more enjoyable swim in calmer, safer conditions.

While Dixon Park Beach will be our primary winter patrol location in that area, our lifeguards will continue to monitor Merewether Beach through regular roving patrols. The Department of Primary Industries drone based at Dixon Park Beach will also assist with safety monitoring across our beaches.

What beaches will be patrolled over winter?

🌊Nobbys Beach
🌊Bar Beach
🌊Dixon Park Beach
🌊Newcastle and Merewether Ocean Baths

We strongly encourage swimmers to swim at patrolled beaches only, always swim between the red and yellow flags and take extra care in the water this winter.

Year round, water safety - it starts with you!
