✨ Update for New Referrals! ✨

At Newcastle Therapy, we’re always looking for ways to best support our community! Moving forward, our travel catchment for new referrals will be within a 30-minute radius of our Mayfield office. 🚗 This helps us provide consistent, high-quality care, and allows our therapists to spend more time supporting you!

No changes for our wonderful existing clients – your current arrangements remain just as they are! There will also be no changes to clients we in the clinic or via Telehealth 😊

We’re excited to continue offering flexible support, meeting you where you feel most comfortable - whether that’s in your home or out in the community. We’re committed to providing personalised care that truly fits your needs, right where you are. 🌟

We wanted to be open and honest about how we’re feeling about the NDIS pricing changes, effective July 1st. As a small, local business, navigating these upcoming changes has brought a lot of stress and deep conversations behind the scenes.

I wanted to share this photo to show you what ‘behind the scenes’ often looks like. This is me, Brontë, the Speech Pathologist and co-director, working on managing these very changes from my toddler’s bed, while feeding my newborn. It reflects why we do what we do - because we deeply care about providing quality support. As a small business, in a female-led industry, we’re constantly juggling to support our own families while being here for yours.

It’s important to us that you understand the context: while the cost of living and running a business have risen significantly, the hourly rate for allied health professionals under the NDIS has been effectively frozen for the past 7 years. Small businesses like ours are now having to absorb these additional costs.

Our absolute priority, as always, is to provide you with the best possible support. However, with the NDIS reducing time that can be billed for travel by 50%, these new adjustments mean we’ll need to re-evaluate where we can offer services. Businesses will have to limit service areas, which truly worries us, especially for our regional participants where essential services are already scarce. We want to provide reassurance that service area changes won’t effect our existing participants, however will take effect for new referrals moving forward.

You’ll receive a detailed email from us today with all the information about these changes and what they mean for your services. Please keep a close eye on your inbox ✉️

Thank you for your understanding and patience. We truly love what we do, and look forward to continuing to provide Speech & OT support to the wonderful people we’re so lucky to work with 💙

Please reach out to our team with any questions. If you’re concerned about these changes, we encourage you to reach out to your local MP.

At Newcastle Therapy, we are committed to continuous learning and upskilling. This directly translates into providing the most current, effective, and supportive therapy for everyone we work with! ✨

Our Speech Pathologist, Brontë, recently attended the 2025 Yellow Ladybugs conference online, learning about how to best support autistic women and gender diverse individuals. This conference brings together over 50 speakers sharing their lived and professional expertise in a way that is trauma-informed, neuro-affirming, and deeply rooted in understanding 🌈💛

Our Occupational Therapist, Chanelle, completed invaluable training with the Understanding Dementia MOOC by The Wicking Dementia Centre. 💡 This means we’re even better equipped to empower and assist participants living with dementia and their families, tailoring our approaches with the latest knowledge.

Our team is eager to put these new insights and skills into practice to continue providing the best possible support for the incredible people we work with 🫶🏼

📢 Important Update- NDIS Funding Periods 🗓️

The NDIS has introduced “funding periods” for plans starting or reviewed since May 19, 2025. This changes how your NDIS budget is accessed.

Instead of your entire plan budget upfront, funds are released in instalments (e.g., every 3 months). NDIS Participants and their representatives can view their specific funding period dates and allocated amounts in the NDIS participant portal. 💻

Further details about this policy change can be found on the NDIS Website 🔗

What does this mean for your journey with us at Newcastle Therapy? 🤔 Our service agreement has had a little makeover to sync up with these new NDIS funding periods 📄Services can only be billed within the same funding period they happen in, so it is important you update your therapist of any changes to your NDIS Plan. You can carry over any unused NDIS funding to your next period. But, if you use up all your funding before your plan renews, we’ll have to pause services until the next period starts.

We’re committed to providing your therapy based on the structure of your NDIS plan. ✨
