Polyphonic is a free music program where young people can relax, make music, meet others and have a go at things in a supportive environment.

Across the program they explore songwriting, recording, GarageBand, beat-making, live performance and different instruments, while working alongside guest musicians and collaborating with each other.

A lot of the feedback we received after previous school holiday intensives centred around the atmosphere of the program. Participants felt welcomed, encouraged and comfortable trying new things, while parents shared how important the sense of inclusion and connection has been for their children. Many asked for the program to run longer or more often, with plenty already keen to come back next holiday.

Our July school holiday intensive is open for registrations for young people aged 12-17.

All experience levels are welcome and the program is completely free. Spots are limited. Sign up today via the website:

A few weeks ago I attended the Hunter Community Alliance symposium on loneliness and social isolation at Windale Hub.

It was great to hear from so many people across the Hunter who are thinking deeply about connection, belonging, and how we support each other locally.

Lots to reflect on, especially around the role of community, creativity, and shared spaces in helping people feel more connected.

One of the best parts of Polyphonic Australia is seeing young people create their own original music - from first ideas through to recording and sharing their work on platforms like YouTube and Spotify.

This track was composed by Polyphonic participant Ieuan, and it feels like the perfect soundtrack for a rainy day.

Music can support so many different areas of life, like communication, focus, emotional regulation, confidence, connection and self-expression.

Because music engages emotional, motor and language areas of the brain at the same time, it can be a powerful way to support learning, wellbeing and participation for people of all ages and abilities.

At Play Anything Music Therapy, we use evidence-based music therapy practices tailored to each individual’s goals and needs. Sessions might include instruments, singing, movement, songwriting, listening or creative play, all in a supportive and engaging environment.
