The HPV vaccine, part of the National Immunisation Program, helps protect against the types of human papillomavirus linked to cervical cancer.

Despite recent announcements about changes to bulk billing, the GPs at MMC will continue to bill privately.

There has been a lot of talk about “returning to bulk billing.” Medicare rebates do not always match the costs involved in delivering services. For this reason, most appointments at MMC remain privately billed.

How billing works at MMC:

Medicare funding arrangements contribute to how different services are billed across General Practice.

Bulk billing: Recent changes in funding have affected rebates for some chronic care services. GPs at MMC
have chosen to still bulk bill eligible patients for some services, including chronic disease care plans and
health assessments.

Rebates for certain women’s health procedures, such as Mirena and Implanon insertion and removal, have
been improved. The GPs now choose to bulk bill these services.

Private billing: Many appointments require longer time with a GP. Current rebate levels mean these services remain privately billed.

Sustainable funding arrangements would support ongoing access to a range of General Practice services
in the community.

If you have questions about fees before your visit, please ask our reception team. We will provide clear
information about expected costs. The GPs’ fee schedule can be found on our website (link in bio).

Anyone with concerns about healthcare costs may choose to raise these with their local Federal MP.
