Social Media & Mental Health – A Gentle Reminder from Our Team

At Newcastle Social Workers, we work closely with people living with psychosocial disabilities — many of whom are navigating complex mental health challenges while trying to stay connected in a digital world.

Social media can be a great tool for connection, but it can also be overwhelming. Comparison, misinformation, and online fatigue are real — and they can take a toll on mental wellbeing.

We’ve shared some reflections on our blog about the impact of social media on mental health, including how to stay grounded and protect your emotional space.

If you or someone you know needs an NDIS support coordinator, we are ready to assist. Get in touch with us via our website :)

Social media has become integral to modern life, influencing how we connect, communicate, and share information. While social media offers numerous benefits, including increased connectivity and access to information, its impact on mental health can be significant and complex. In this post, we explo...

Your Rights as an NDIS participant matter.

It's important for NDIS support coordinators to support people in making real, informed decisions, with multiple options being offered for a given support.

That way, people can weigh the pros and cons of various options and choose supports that best suit their own needs.

If you need an NDIS support coordinator, reach out to us via our website, and a member of our team will get in touch with you :)

Are you making the most of your NDIS plan?

Here are three signs you’re on track:
1️⃣ You feel clear about what’s included and what’s not.
2️⃣ Your supports are helping you move towards your personal goals.
3️⃣ You feel comfortable speaking up if something isn’t working.

If you’re not ticking all three, it’s okay— our team of NDIS support coordinators can help you to feel confident and in control of your plan.

Unfortunately, we often hear families say they’ve felt unheard, frustrated, or overwhelmed by unreturned messages or slow responses. Some people even get completely ghosted by their support coordinator and don't even know where they went!

That's why our team at Newcastle Social Workers prioritises responsiveness—always returning your call or message, guiding you clearly through next steps, and being available when concerns arise. You deserve support that meets you where you are—practically, compassionately, every time.

If you’ve felt dismissed before or simply want a smoother NDIS journey, we’d love to talk.

You can get in touch with us via our website at www.newcastlesocialworkers.com.au :)

A Big Step Forward for Dylan 👏

When Dylan (name changed for privacy) first connected with us, he had just been released from jail. After a difficult upbringing and time inside, he was living with PTSD, a receptive language delay, and an intellectual disability. His goal? To stay out of prison, stay sober, and find a job.

Dylan committed to working towards his goals with one of our NDIS support coordinators. We linked him with a local Disability Employment Service provider and supported him through every appointment. He also started working with a therapist to help him process grief and work on emotional regulation.

Today—just 4 months later—we got a phone call that made our day:

“I got my forklift licence this week. I just wanted to thank you guys for everything you have done for me. It wasn't easy but I feel like I have a real chance of getting a job now so thank you”

If you or someone you know is looking for an NDIS support coordinator to help them work towards their goals, get in touch with us via our website www.newcastlesocialworkers.com.au

We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the Hunter Homeless Connect day next Wednesday 9am-2pm at Newcastle Entertainment Centre. It’s a free event that would be helpful for anyone experiencing homelessness in the local area. It will also be a great source of information for those of us working in community services. It is all about working collaboratively. Newcastle Social Workers will be located inside in the ‘community connections hub’. Michelle and I will be there all day so come say hello :)
