Syphilis is a s*xually transmitted infection that can cause serious permanent damage if left untreated.

The number of syphilis cases in Australia is increasing, so much so that it’s recently been declared a communicable disease of national significance.
It’s usually passed on through unprotected skin-to-skin contact during a**l, oral or vaginal s*x, which is why syphilis testing is recommended in every STI screening.

Today is the United Nations' Human Rights Day, and we're reflecting on our work in advancing reproductive and s*xual health rights across the Pacific 🌺 🌍

This year, Family Planning Australia, alongside our partners, made a real impact through our programs in the Pacific.

✨ 11,198 people directly benefited
💗ྀི 8,644 contraceptives distributed
🌸 2,036 women received cervical screening
🧠 318 health workers trained in cervical screening, contraception, and youth-friendly health services
💡20 educators trained to deliver Comprehensive Sexuality Education
✨180 individuals provided with in-person Comprehensive Sexuality Education
💻 Another 437,950 people reached through social media and online education and video campaigns.

Every number represents a step closer to equality. Today, we celebrate progress and commit to ensuring that everyone can make informed choices about their reproductive and s*xual health.
