I just had a very long day consulting my clients yesterday πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«. I was too busy to defrost the chicken I was planning to cook. Do you relate to this from time to time? πŸ™„πŸ™„
Bumma! Without a choice, I had to quickly duck to the supermarket to get a pre-marinated chicken as it is quick and easy.
Pre-marinated meat industry is full of traps I reckon. They are normally high in hidden refined sugar, maltodextrin, fats and other things. I still recommend you marinate your own meat/chicken from scratch if possible.

I had no choice that day. I thought I will share with you how I normally choose pre-marinated meat so that you can avoid traps as much as possible.

🌹 First, only looking at per 100g info. don't look at per serving info as the serving size varies a lot.

🎍Second, you want to make sure Per 100g the carbs are ideally less than 3g. If there are a lot of carbs, e.g the third photo, it normally means it has a lot of 'interesting things'.

🌡Third, total fats should be less than 4g per 100g. High fats could come from refined vegetable oil or simply animal fats.

🌳 Fourth, per 100g sodium should be less than 400mg. Even like this, it is still a bit salty. If my guideline is too strict, you simply wouldn't find a product at all πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

πŸ’ lastly, for the first 3 ingredients, you should try to avoid sugar, maltodextrin and starch.

These criteria are great for people with
1. diabetes
2. high cholesterol
3. high blood pressure
4. weight loss
5. PCOS and pre diabetes

Last weekend we had a friend couple over for lunch πŸ€— . My wife and I had been thinking about what to cook while we were in Coles. She randomly picks up this taco seasoning and asks me to cook taco.

I was super excited about 2 things: first, we finally know what to do!, second, about this taco seasoning!
If you know me well, I am totally obsessed with cheap, healthy, and easy to consume foods people can easily find in the supermarket.
This one ticked pretty much all of the boxes of a healthy condiment 😍😍. one of the most easy ways to judge a product is healthy or not is to make sure that there should not be any ingredient on the list you don't know. Sometimes you see the products with a lot of chemical numbers and names on the package. The ingredients of this product are garlic, onion, paprika, cumin, salt, tomato powder, coriander, parsley, pepper, thyme, basil, chilli. Even my 6 year-old knows what these ingredients are!
🌴 Per 100g, regular taco seasoning has 34g added sugar while this one only have 7g and it is pure natural from spice and herbs.
🌷 No refined carbs e.g. sugar, maize flour and maltodextrin at all!
🌡 Per 100g, regular seasoning has 6600mg sodium while this one only has 2000mg.
🌲 my guest has not complained the taste. I ticked this as a big YES! unless my guests is super polite! I have t confess I don't have a clinical trial to prove that, lol.
pic 3 shows you the texture of it. you can see it is much purer than the other one.
πŸ€ it is only 3dollars. It is very good deal. It is available in both Coles and Woolies.
another health product unlocked. what's next?

We are sadly looking for a new home for our cat Louie 🐱🐱. When we first had him in 2014 in Burwood, he was still a little kitten. After a few years after we had our first child, we decided to let my parents look after him. He's been with my parents for 3-4 years now. My parents are getting old now though. Looking after Louie is becoming hard for them, so we are looking for an owner who loves cats and would like to be Louie's new owner. He is a shy boy. He normally hides under the bed for a few days before he starts feeling comfortable to meet new people. We mainly feed him cat biscuits. Once a day, he gets some wet cat food. If you love cats and are keen to adopt him, don't hesitate to contact us 😁😁.

I grew up in a third world country. Food and resources were very scarce back then. I remember we couldn’t even buy eggs πŸ₯šπŸ₯š when I was born; my mum had to acquire special food stamps (which were in very limited supply) and wait in a long queue to have access to a dozen eggs for the whole family for half a month. Therefore, to make sure we had enough nutrition and protein, my mum cooked a lot of tofu which is very nutritious and cheaper than other protein sources like red meat. Asian people have been eating tofu for centuries.
Now, non-GMO tofu, which is high in protein, is available in most Australians supermarkets. Believe it or not, it is also rich in calcium and prebiotic fibre which is great for nourishing our gut microbiome 🀩🀩.
I’d love to share a very simple and delicious recipe my mum used to cook for me by using one type of tofu – silken tofu. In our Eat Savvi online community, we also have a lot of people from South Asia who are vegetarian, but don’t eat much tofu. I hope this recipe can help you boost your protein intake.
This dish is:
βœ… Low carb
βœ… High protein
βœ… Diabetes friendly
βœ… Cholesterol friendly
βœ… High blood pressure friendly
βœ… Fatty liver friendly
βœ… Heart friendly
βœ… Vegan friendly
Check out this amazingly quick but super tasty tofu dish, it may change your view on tofu! Post a photo when you try it. We’d love to see itπŸ₯³πŸ₯³!

In a wealthy country like Australia, having access to food is often not the problem. On the contrary, we are β€œoverfed” with too much rich and ultra-processed foods which can lead to chronic conditions such as diabetes and obesity…

10 years ago, I came to Australia from China to pursue a degree in nutrition and dietetics with broken English and little money. The chance of getting in this competitive course was very small. The journey was tough and full of challenges for every student, let alone for an international student like myself. A lot of sacrifices had to be made. However, in the end, I made it.

10 years later, I was asked to write a referee report for a young man to study at University of Wollongong or Curtin University to pursue the same degree. I felt quite emotional. For those who are struggling with their study, work or even just life in general, please don't lose hope as you might eventually turn the corner and see the light shining through the .
