🚿 High chance of showers every day? That's what we're talking about.

We're stoked the federal government has announced that showering and personal care will be a fully funded clinical service for older Australians in the Support at Home program from October.

We're not a weather service here at Envigor, but it's a prediction we're glad came true.

The sad truth is that when older Australians suffer a fall it can often mark the start of a challenging, sometimes devastating health battle.

But here's the facts:

πŸ‘΄ About 1 in 4 people aged over 65 have at least one fall a year.

πŸ₯ Falls are the leading cause of injury resulting in hospital admissions in this age group. They are also the leading cause of death.

πŸ“• Research shows many falls in older people are actually preventable.

If you or a loved one are having a few too many "almosts" then it's time to take action.

πŸ‘‡ Read on to learn how πŸ‘‡

Falls occur during everyday routines, which is what makes them so deadly. Stepping into the shower, getting out of a chair or reaching for something on a high shelf can be a catalyst for a serious fall.

We're so grateful to Janet for sitting down with us to share her mum's home care story.

"I wanted local people, and I wanted people she could trust."

Couldn't have said it better ourselves.

When you hear those words "I can manage", your ears should prick upπŸ‘‚

One or two of these signs might mean nothing. A cluster of them, or a noticeable change over a short period of time, is more significant.

It just may be time to take action...

Noticing changes in your mum or dad? These are the signs it might be time to explore home care, and how to start the conversation.

🍟 CHSP is not just the sound a delicious hot chippy makes when you bite into it...

If you've looked into home care funding in Australia, CHSP and Support at Home are the two program names that come up a lot.

Both are government-funded. Both support older Australians at home. But they work very differently, and being on the wrong one can mean less flexibility, less funding and less support than you're entitled to.

We've written a plain-English guide that breaks it all down, including how funding works under each program, who each one is designed for and where you might be better off.

Not sure whether you need CHSP or Support at Home? Here's a guide to how the two programs work and how to find out which one applies to you.

β˜€οΈ The toast of the Sunny Coast! β˜€οΈ

It was an absolute delight to have some of our clients, their carers and friends get together for a casual social lunch at the Caloundra RSL last week.

The quality of the chat was top notch, as was the nosh! And the limited edition Envigor cookies and tea towels were a hit.

A big thanks to all who came along 😊

If you're caring for someone you love, this is your reminder: taking a break isn't giving up πŸ’™

In Australia, 2.65 million people are unpaid carers, and most of them are family members who put everyone else first. But carer burnout is real, and the people who take regular breaks are actually better able to provide quality care over the long term.

That's what respite care is for.

Here's the lowdown on how you can access the respite services you need πŸ‘‡

Respite care gives family carers a well-earned break while your loved one receives quality in-home support. Here's how it works and how to access it.

It's with a touch of sadness but also a lot of gratitude that we said farewell and good luck to one of our excellent colleagues Craig Roberts this week.

Craig has been our trusted and extremely wise Clinical Nurse for a touch over five years, guiding our care teams through the complexities of care planning and delivering exceptional care experiences for our clients.

Thanks for everything, Craig! You've been an absolute rock for our care teams across Queensland and a source of clinical wisdom for Envigor's management.

(Not pictured: Craig's departing gift of a huge array of steak sauces and The Original Rescue Swag snake bite kit he'll need as he heads to the country for his new gig!)

🍎 How do you like them apples?πŸ‡

Envigor's Darling Downs team had an absolute ball marching in the Stanthorpe Apple and Grape Harvest Festival Grand Parade over the weekend!

The lollies and apples we handed out were a hit, and the lucky few that got our limited edition collectible Envigor tea towels were over the moon!

A huge thanks to our clients who joined us for the stroll down the main street of Stanthorpe, and also to our little team of helpers decked out in their Envigor T-shirts. They did a great job of handing out hundreds of lolly bags and apples!

It was a hot day, but our Envigor tea towels were hotter! Thanks for having us!

The care economy runs on women.

In Australia, more than 85% of care workers are women.

Today, on International Women’s Day, we want to recognise the extraordinary women who make care possible every single day.

At Envigor, our team of carers, nurses, care co-ordinators and support staff show up with patience, compassion and an incredible sense of responsibility for the people they support. They’re the ones who notice the small changes, remember the details and make sure our clients feel safe, respected and cared for in their own homes.

Care work isn’t easy. It requires emotional strength, skill and genuine commitment to other people’s wellbeing.

We’re incredibly grateful for the women in our team and for the care they bring to their work every day.

We rarely have time to take pics of our staff in action during our working week, but we did capture some of the wonderful women who make a difference every day at our awards night late last year!

Today we celebrate you. And we thank you.

πŸ‘ What a day it's been at the Alayacare Better Outcomes conference in Sydney!

Envigor's awesome management team has been all ears, learning about how technology is reshaping the way aged care is being delivered.

Our Chief Operating Officer Alicia Wooding's key takeaway from the day is true to form:

"The best thing about the technology leap is that it allows us to spend even more time doing what we do best: caring for older Aussies. That's the core purpose."
