Are you keen to make some extra $ via Return and Earn or similar programs? Our bar generates a considerable amount of cans and bottles, perfect for them, and we would love to see them recycled through these great programs.

We can bag up the cans and bottles weekly on a Sunday night and leave them accessible for you. The only stipulation is that they are picked up on Monday before 6pm.

If interested, please reach out to our bar manager: Analise.Kibble@newportsurfclub.com.au

While there is a heightened awareness based on recent incidents, we welcome all members and visitors to visit the Patrol tent this weekend to chat about any concerns. Our Patrol Captains have been briefed and they are to make the decision if to open the beach. The decision to open will be based on conditions, patrol strength, water clarity, marine activity and weather forecasts as per our SOPs.
Newport still has the pool at the south to jump into if tides are right and a walk along the beach is always good for the soul.

Have a great long weekend!

You may be aware that the victim of the North Steyne shark attack was given 15 units of blood which is approximately 6 litres prior to getting to hospital.

As a result of this and similar incidents across Sydney, blood supplies are now dangerously low.

This is a concern especially as we head into a long weekend.

If you are able to, please consider taking the time to donate some blood. There is a collection bus at Dee Why and appointments can be made via their website or by clicking onto the graphic below.

The link in the Instagram post enables you to find the closest donation collection point so please share it as much as you can.

This is one way we can all help to save a life

Information that came out from Branch late last night. Please be aware of the current dangers.

As you are no doubt aware, there was several incidents that occurred today involving shark activity.

January 19, 2026

A young male surfer was knocked off his board as an unidentified shark specie took a bite of his surfboard. The young male was not injured. The incident occurred at Dee Why.

4 DPI notifications of tagged sharks was received throughout the day.

Freshwater was closed at approximately 5:00pm due to shark sighting. NBC PWC was launched for search and surveillance and the beach was closed. An announcement across the Manly stretch was made advising of the shark sighting and people were encouraged to leave the water despite the beaches being closed.

At approximately 6:15pm a young male suffered severe bite to his right leg resulting in major blood loss requiring CPR at North Steyne. Luckily there were some North Steyne members doing some CPR training and were first responders on scene to assist with the care of the shark attack victim. Sincere thanks to all at North Steyne who assisted along with the TIPS team members who attended to support our members.

As a result of this latest incident at North Steyne and the significant activity throughout the day, DPI have advised that all beaches in the Northern Beaches Council will be closed for 48 hours.

Given the above, there will no doubt be a significant amount of media presence. Can I ask that you please give me the day to work with DPI, Northern Beaches Council and SLSNSW to put together a consistent message for all Clubs to utilise on their websites to advise their members and communities should you wish to do so.

Any queries in relation to the above or if you need any assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact me at any time.

It's great to see members of the community sharing their experiences of our amazing beaches, as well as the incredible positive impacts our work has! Surf safety is so integral to how we experience and appreciate our beaches, and we thank all our terrific members for keeping our visitors safe.

My son is just at my heels as we emerge from the shallows at the beach. He is mastering the art of walking so I think, rather than lugging him up through the soft sand, I’ll let him totter up the beach behind me.

The weather gods were to good to us again after a few days of massive swell. It was lovely to have the opportunity to promote a positive experience at the beach after such a tragic start to the year.

This year exceptionally special for us as it represented a 20 relationship with Harris Farm. It was wonderful for the whole club to come together one of the few days a year where we get to all hang out together.

A special thanks to all our sponsors who make this day possible
