Walking is good. Walking well is better.

Learning to Nordic walk with an INWA-trained instructor changes how your body works on every step. Correct technique means the poles support you, your posture improves, and your whole body gets involved, not only your legs.

With proper instruction, Nordic walking:
• Engages the upper and lower body together
• Improves posture and walking efficiency
• Builds strength and stamina without joint strain
• Boosts cardiovascular fitness at a steady, sustainable level
• Supports balance and coordination
• Reduces load through hips, knees, and ankles
• Helps clear the head and settle the mind
• Makes walking feel purposeful, not plodding

The difference comes from learning the technique properly, using the INWA 10 Step Method™. An INWA-trained instructor teaches you how to use the poles correctly so your walk works harder for you, without feeling harder.

Whether you’re new to Nordic walking, returning to exercise, cross-training, or simply want more from your walks, learning with an instructor is where the benefits start.

Training for a big challenge?

If you’re taking part in a long-distance charity event and building endurance, Nordic walking is a smart way to train. Especially when you want something effective, joint-friendly, and easy to fit around everyday life.

The March On Challenge runs throughout March and can be completed anywhere. Walk when it suits you. Train where you live. The distance is yours to manage.

Nordic walking works brilliantly alongside this kind of challenge because it:
• Builds stamina without constant impact
• Uses the upper and lower body together
• Supports posture and efficient movement over distance
• Reduces load through hips, knees, and ankles
• Helps you stay consistent across the month

You don’t need to be a Nordic walker already. Many people use it purely as cross-training for charity walks, endurance events, or long-distance goals. The difference comes from learning correct technique, so the poles work with your body rather than against it.

Learning with an INWA-trained Nordic walking instructor gives you skills you can apply straight to your March challenge. Better efficiency. Better recovery. More sustainable training.

Are you joining us at the INWA Convention?

It’s open to all INWA Nordic Walking Instructors across Australia. The speaker line up is starting to be announced, and it’s shaping up to be something special.

Count it towards your CPD, sharpen your skills, and connect with instructors from around the world.

First confirmed speaker for the INWA Convention in Japan.

We are pleased to confirm Satoshi Fujita, Professor at the College of Sport and Health Science, Ritsumeikan University.

This session speaks to every INWA Nordic walking instructor. No matter where you teach, who you work with, or your level of experience.

From protein intake to muscle function, Professor Fujita explores how nutrition and exercise work together to maintain muscle health as we age. The focus is practical, evidence-led, and directly relevant to the people we support through Nordic walking.

You will gain clear insight into muscle maintenance, sarcopenia prevention, and how informed guidance around movement and nutrition strengthens your professional practice. This knowledge underpins safe, effective instruction across all age groups and abilities.

If you are an INWA instructor, this is relevant to you. It supports what you teach, how you explain it, and why Nordic walking plays a key role in lifelong movement.

“It don’t mean a thing if you ain’t got that swing.”

That line says a lot about Nordic Walking.

In the INWA™ 10 Step Method™, swing is not decoration. It is what drives rhythm, posture, and power. Without a relaxed, purposeful arm swing, poles become passengers instead of partners.

Good swing starts from the shoulders, not the hands.
Arms move freely back and forward.
Poles load and release naturally.
The body rotates, stride length improves, and walking feels smoother and lighter.

This is where Nordic Walking shifts from walking with poles to proper Nordic Walking.

The quote comes from Duke Ellington, and it fits perfectly. Because in Nordic Walking, if the swing is missing, the technique is missing.

Want help getting your swing right?
Train or walk with an INWA™ instructor and feel the difference proper technique makes.
