👀 are you hips the real issue?

Back pain is often the symptom that presents, but if the pain continues to resurface, your back may not be the problem.

We assess the body as a whole, including the hips. This is especially important for our runners experiencing back pain.

If this is you, and you haven’t addressed your hip function as a cause for your back pain, we may be able to help 💪🏽

When running is the goal, we can help keep your body moving, reduce your risk of overload injury and get you spending more time on the track, and less time on the sidelines.

If your jaw keeps clicking, clenching or causing headaches, it’s not “just” stress

TMJ dysfunction is common and treatable with the right assessment and rehab approach.

Our Osteopaths look at jaw mechanics, tension patterns and contributing factors like jaw function, jaw posture and breathing.

If you’re looking for help with TMJ pain, jaw tension or headaches, our team at Alpha has you covered.

Nutrition is so much more than calories and meal plans.

Our dietitian works alongside our physios, osteos and EPs to support real, sustainable change.

Whether your goal is to move better, feel stronger, recover faster or improve long-term health.

How our Dietitian can help:
🥗 Sports & performance nutrition
💪🏽 Injury recovery & rehab support
🦴 Bone health, RED-S & relative energy deficiency
🏃🏽‍♀️ Endurance & running nutrition
🧠 Gut health, IBS, fatigue & hormonal support
❤️ Cardiometabolic health (cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure)
⚖️ Disordered eating & relationship with food (weight-neutral, non-diet approach)
🧠 Neurodivergent eating habits
🧬 Mast Cell Activation Disorders and other conditions associated with EDS/HSD

Just like everything we do at Alpha, nutrition is individualised, evidence-based and integrated into your care, not a one-size-fits-all plan.

Shin splints — or medial tibial stress syndrome — are one of the most common running injuries we see at Alpha Sports Medicine.

They usually show up when training load exceeds your body’s capacity, especially in the muscles and tissues around the tibia.

This can happen when you:
• Increase your training volume too quickly
• Add hills or speed without building tolerance
• Run on hard surfaces
• Have low calf or foot strength
• Have stiff ankles or altered biomechanics
• Wear shoes that don’t support your running style

Over time, this creates irritation where the soft tissues attach to the shin — and that creates the burning, aching feeling runners know too well.

So when should you see a professional?

Come in for an assessment if your shin pain:
• Persists for more than 2–3 weeks
• Feels sharp, localised, or deep in the bone
• Doesn’t improve with load reduction
• Makes walking painful
• Started suddenly without a clear cause

These may indicate a stress reaction or stress fracture, which need early diagnosis and structured rehab.

You don’t have to stop running — you just need the right plan.

Our multidisciplinary team can help you manage the pain, rebuild strength, fix the underlying cause, and safely return to running with a stronger foundation.
