We’ve turned 4!

Four years ago, we opened Tasmania’s first Urgent Care Centre, one of the very first in Australia, right here in Launceston.

Since then, our dedicated team of highly skilled doctors, nurses and health professionals has cared for tens of thousands of patients, providing fast, affordable urgent medical care when it’s needed most.

With the support of our colleagues at ComRRS, Launceston Pathology, X-Ray Newstead and other local radiology providers, we’ve helped keep our community safe and reduced unnecessary trips to the Launceston General Hospital (LGH).

While we’re designed to manage Category 3–5 cases, we’ve also handled serious emergencies including heart attacks, meningococcal sepsis, anaphylaxis, and critically unwell children.

We’re proud to be part of the Launceston healthcare community, and we’re grateful for every patient who has trusted us over the past four years.

It’s been a privilege to provide health care to the Launceston community. Here’s to continuing to care for our community today, tomorrow, and for years to come.

We’re so lucky to have nurse Lys on our team!

She’s part of our amazing group of nurses at our Urgent Care Centre bringing kindness and calm, with plenty of expertise and experience.

🌟 Congratulations to Registered Nurse Alyssa Mitchell-Collins! She received a DAISY award for her compassionate care at Launceston General Hospital.

✍️ Excerpts from the nomination by a patient:
“I would like to thank Alyssa from Accident and Emergency. I have severe Parkinson’s Disease and developed COVID-19 with bacterial pneumonia. I was taken to hospital and placed in an isolation room. Alyssa came on the afternoon shift and was so kind to myself and my wife. She made me feel safe. She asked about my deep brain stimulator and apomine pump and realised that without this, I could not move and therefore breathe properly. Alyssa advocated for me and had me moved to AMU where I received the best care. Thanks to angel Alyssa for giving the best handover of my required needs. Thank you young lady for your wonderful care and kindness. It is the little things at the start of the patient’s journey that matter the most.”

20 Years of Dedication – Thank You, Prue!

A lot has changed in medicine over the past 20 years but one thing that’s remained constant is the incredible care, resilience, and kindness of our administration team.

Prue has truly seen it all. From pulling paper files for every patient to decoding doctor handwriting, she’s been at the heart of it all and we’re so lucky she still calls Newstead Medical home.

Reflecting on her time here, Prue shared:

“Over the years I’ve had the privilege of working with some amazing people who’ve made such a positive impact on my life. And of course, I’ve met many lovely patients too.”

Thank you, Prue, for everything you’ve brought and continue to bring to the practice. You’re such a valued part of our Newstead Medical family.

Yesterday we came together for the Biggest Morning Tea at Newstead Medical.

Over cups of tea and plates of homemade treats, our team paused to reflect, connect, and raise funds for a cause close to many hearts.

Thank you to everyone who contributed, donated, and helped make this morning so meaningful. Every cuppa really does count.

Happy National Receptionist Day!

Our receptionists are the heartbeat of our practices—the friendly faces who greet you, the calm voices on the phone, and the incredible people who hold everything together behind the scenes. They truly are the backbone of Newstead Medical, Kings Meadows Medical Centre, NewWorkHealth and Urgent Care Centre.

Today we celebrated our amazing team with delicious platters from Banjo's Bakery Cafe and Manubread.

Today, on Florence Nightingale’s birthday, we’re proud to celebrate the incredible nurses at Newstead Medical, Kings Meadows Medical Centre, NewWorkHealth and the Urgent Care Centre.

Our nurses deliver outstanding care to the community—consistently going above and beyond to support patients through some of life’s most challenging moments.

This year, we also want to shine a light on something just as important: their wellbeing.

Newstead Medical is running our final Carpark Flu Clinic of the season tomorrow.

Flu vaccines are available for everyone aged 5 and over, and appointments are designed for ease and comfort right from your car.
