Poor posture and tech neck 📱

Hours spent looking down at phones, laptops, and tablets can place extra strain through the neck, shoulders, and upper spine. Over time, these modern habits may contribute to postural changes and movement patterns that feel tight, fatigued, or uncomfortable.

“Tech neck” is a term often used to describe this forward head posture. When the head sits forward of the shoulders, the spine and surrounding muscles have to work harder to support it. That extra load can add up, especially across a long workday.

Chiropractic care looks at how the spine is moving and adapting to these daily demands. The focus is on improving mobility, supporting better posture awareness, and helping the body handle screen time more efficiently, rather than avoiding it altogether. (We know that’s not realistic.) This timeless idea sits at the heart of traditional chiropractic philosophy. It reflects the view that the body has an inherent capacity to adapt and regulate itself, particularly when movement is supported and unnecessary strain is reduced.

Rather than seeing the body as something that simply needs to be “fixed,” this perspective focuses on supporting healthy movement, joint function, and overall musculoskeletal balance. The aim is not to promise cures, but to work with the body in a way that encourages comfort, mobility, and resilience.
Modern chiropractic care blends this philosophy with contemporary clinical understanding. Care is tailored to the individual, with an emphasis on function, movement quality, and long-term well-being.

For many people, this way of thinking feels empowering. It shifts the focus from quick fixes to awareness, consistency, and caring for the whole person.

Word of the Day: Muscle 💪📚

The word muscle comes from the Latin musculus, meaning “little mouse”. Ancient Romans thought that when a muscle moved under the skin, particularly in the arm, it looked like a mouse darting about. Or did they?

The idea did not, in fact, start with the Romans. Ancient Greek physicians had already named muscle using the word mys (or myos), which also meant “mouse”. The Romans borrowed heavily from Greek medical knowledge, so the Latin term is widely thought to be influenced by this earlier Greek imagery rather than invented independently.

That Greek root is still with us today. You can spot myo- in medical terms like myology (the study of muscles) and myofascial, linking modern anatomy back to ancient observation. In chiropractic care, muscles matter because they work closely with the spine and nervous system to support movement and posture.

Sleep posture matters 😴

Your mattress and pillow are partners in spinal health. When they work together, they can help support a more neutral spine overnight. For many people, side sleeping with a pillow between the knees helps keep the hips and lower back in a more comfortable alignment, rather than twisting through the spine.

That said, there is no single “perfect” sleep position. What matters most is whether your spine feels supported and relaxed, not forced or strained. Waking up stiff or sore can be a sign that your sleep setup needs a rethink, not that you are doing anything wrong.

Chiropractic care often looks at daytime movement and posture, but night-time habits matter too. You spend hours in one position while you sleep, so small changes can add up over time.

Our spinal discs are about 80% water 💧

Those discs sit between the bones of your spine and act as shock absorbers, helping you move, bend, and load your body more comfortably. Because they rely so heavily on water content, hydration and regular movement both play a role in keeping them functioning well.

Unlike muscles, spinal discs do not have a direct blood supply. They rely on movement to help draw nutrients in and waste products out, which is one reason long periods of stillness can leave the spine feeling stiff.

Chiropractic care often looks at how the spine moves, not just how it feels. Supporting healthy movement patterns, alongside simple habits like staying hydrated, and working movement into your days, can help your spine cope better with everyday demands.

Do you notice your body feels stiffer on days you sit more or drink less water? Tell us in the comments 👇

This year’s theme, Give to Gain, is a powerful reminder that looking after yourself is not selfish. When women give time, energy, and care to their own health, they often gain strength, resilience, and the capacity to support others more fully.

So many women juggle work, family, caring roles, and mental load, often putting their own bodies last. Yet movement, rest, and support are not luxuries. They are foundations. When the spine and nervous system are supported, the body is better able to adapt to the physical and emotional demands of daily life.

In chiropractic care, the focus is on helping the body move well and function efficiently, so giving a little attention to your own health can pay dividends in how you feel, move, and cope day to day.
What is one small thing you could give yourself this week to gain a little more ease or energy? 💭

Chiropractic myths vs facts 🧐
🦄Myth: Chiropractors only crack backs.
✅Fact: Chiropractic care focuses on assessing and supporting joint function, movement, and how the nervous system communicates with the body. Hands-on techniques are used thoughtfully and purposefully, not just for noise or effect.

🦄Myth: It’s only for back pain.
✅Fact: Chiropractors commonly work with issues related to the neck, posture, mobility, and overall movement patterns, always considering how the whole body works together.

🦄Myth: Once you start, you have to keep going forever.
✅Fact: Care plans are individual. Some people choose short-term care, others ongoing support, depending on their goals, needs, and lifestyle.
If you’ve heard something about chiropractic and wondered whether it was myth or fact, we’re always happy to talk it through. To learn more or book an appointment online at www.OurChiro.com.au.

This simple movement is done lying on your back, gently tightening your core to flatten your lower spine into the floor. It is small, controlled, and often underestimated, but it can be very effective.

Pelvic tilts help improve awareness and control through the lower back and pelvis. By encouraging gentle movement and engagement of the core muscles, they can support lumbar stability and help ease tension that builds up with prolonged sitting or poor posture. They are often used as a starting point when the lower back feels stiff or guarded, rather than ready for bigger movements.

In chiropractic care, exercises like this are often recommended to support spinal movement between visits and help the body manage everyday loads more comfortably.

Have you tried pelvic tilts before, or do they sound easier than they feel? Let us know below 👇

🧠🩵 March is a time to shine a light on the realities of brain injury and recovery. Whether caused by a fall, accident, or other trauma, a brain injury can affect movement, coordination, memory, and daily life in ways that aren’t always visible. Awareness is key to understanding, prevention, and support.

Chiropractic care can play a supportive role in recovery by assessing and encouraging gentle movement, posture, and spinal alignment. While it does not treat the brain injury itself, improving how the body moves and functions can help reduce secondary strain and support overall wellbeing during recovery.

This month, take a moment to learn, support, and check in with those affected. Awareness and small adjustments can make a big difference in daily life.

Your spine is more than a stack of bones - it’s a communication hub linking movement, sensation, and stability throughout the body. The cervical spine guides head movement and carries nerves to the shoulders, arms, and hands, which is why irritation here may contribute to headaches or neck-related arm discomfort 🧠.

The thoracic spine anchors the rib cage and shapes breathing mechanics; stiffness can influence posture, rotation, and rib expansion. The lumbar spine handles load transfer between the upper and lower body and sends nerve supply to the legs, making it essential for walking, lifting, and everyday stability ⚡️.

If your spine is dropping hints that it wants a bit of attention, make an appointment with us online.

Sciatica: Easing Pressure on Nerves That Cause Radiating Leg Pain 🦵

Sciatica happens when the sciatic nerve — running from your lower back, through your buttocks, and down your legs — experiences pressure or irritation. This can cause pain, tingling, or numbness that radiates down the leg. Contributing factors include spinal misalignment, muscle tension, prolonged sitting, or poor posture.

Chiropractic care works to support spinal alignment and improve joint mobility, helping reduce pressure on the sciatic nerve. Gentle movement, stretching, and mindful posture during daily activities may also relieve discomfort.

Have you found any small stretches or movements that help your legs or lower back feel better? Share your tips below! 👇
