Satoshi Ōmura was awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discovering a novel therapy against infections caused by roundworm parasites.

A number of serious infectious diseases are caused by parasites spread by insects. River blindness is caused by a tiny worm that can infect the cornea and cause blindness. Lymphatic filariasis, or elephantiasis, is also caused by a worm and produces chronic swelling. Satoshi Ōmura cultured bacteria, which produce substances that inhibit the growth of other microorganisms. One of the pictures depicts a dish containing the bacteria Streptomyces avermectinius, cultivated by Ōmura. He donated this bacterial culture to the Nobel Prize Museum.

In 1978 he succeeded in culturing a strain from which William Campbell purified a substance, avermectin, which in a chemically modified form, ivermectin, proved effective against river blindness and elephantiasis.

Dr. Benedict Lust (1872–1945), the "Father of Naturopathy" in America, was a trailblazer in natural healing, fiercely opposing conventional medicine.

After recovering from illness through hydrotherapy in Germany, he brought these principles to the U.S., founding the American School of Naturopathy in 1901 and the American Naturopathic Association in 1919.

A vocal critic of vaccinations, Lust authored ‘Vaccination: Its Fallacies and Evils’ (1912), exposing what he saw as the dangers and inefficacy of vaccines, advocating instead for the body’s natural healing power through diet, exercise, and water cures.

Despite numerous arrests for practicing without a license, he published works like ‘Nature’s Path’ and the ‘Universal Naturopathic Encyclopedia’, inspiring those of us who champion naturopathic wisdom over pharmaceutical reliance.
