The years leading up to menopause can bring with them some of the most severe symptoms in the menopausal transition such as extreme feelings of anxiety, anger and panic, irregular and very heavy bleeds, hot flashes, sleepless nights, fatigue, aches and pains.

Early perimenopausal changes can be subtle and seemingly unrelated to menopause, such as mood, weight or sleep alterations. During this time when women need support and understanding, women may feel that menopause is shameful and taboo, and often feel too embarrassed to talk about it.

Isn't it time this changed? If you would like to connect with like minded women, form a support network and feel held and supported, come along to the Wild Woman Circle's and let’s start to talk gently and positively about perimenopause, develop strategies and discover how you can act now to improve your health, your experience and understanding of this ‘second puberty’ and rite of passage.

Tickets still available for this 3 week course. (Monday 18/10, 21/10 and 1/11 7.30-9.30pm)

Physical and emotional changes in our 40’s and 50’s including menstrual cycle changes and PMS can leave us wondering what on earth is going on! Heavy periods, short cycles, long cycles, sweats, sleep disturbances, irritability….

If you would like to learn more about how our bodies start to change during this life stage, understand what’s happening with your periods and moods, and what to do about it, come along to Wild Woman Women’s circles where we take time to learn about hormones, our cycles, self care, and can share, listen and laugh inside the relaxed atmosphere of a yurt (bell tent) and beautiful garden.

Taking time to reconnect to yourself, to connect with others, with nature, to feel supported, and to look after your hormone health is so important and can help you feel better and transition more easily through perimenopause.

To book a space in the tent (limited tickets available) for the next round starting 18th October book here

Perimenopause can start as early as 35 years of age and ends after menopause. It is the 2-12 years before your period stops and it is a like a ‘second puberty’. A time of great physical and emotional change!! Yet often, a lack of support, understanding and open discussion about how we feel.

“Ladybugs...in Tassie, this is for you.....I’ve loved being in this circle the past two weeks, and don’t really want it to end!! Something I was a little nervous about starting and now can’t wait to embrace. All of us ladies are in the same flower, so if you want to land in a soft spot join Sharon for her next circle, (and if you have daughters, she celebrates becoming a woman too!)”…..previous circle participant

Wild woman circles are a supportive and nurturing space to come and learn more about perimenopause, share experiences, talk openly, laugh, relax and get some great tips for managing health and wellbeing through this life phase.

On your own, with a friend, it doesn’t matter, just come along and start to explore some of the gifts perimenopause offers us and different ways that we can care for ourselves and honour this wonderful rite of passage.

Next circle opens October 18th

My recent Wild Woman Circles have been so much fun to facilitate. We have been talking about perimenopause in many different contexts. One of these is embracing and living with our life cycles: our daily cycle, our menstrual cycle, the moon cycle, the yearly seasons, life seasons, and how staying connected to these rhythms helps reduce stress, increases health and wellbeing and encourages a deeper connection to self and others. It also helps us reclaim and strengthen elements of our feminine nature and to identify and prioritise self care on a daily basis. Women who have less stress in their 40's generally experience better general health and fewer symptoms during perimenopause. Social connection is also beneficial during this life transition and helps reduce stress hormones. Women's circles are a great way for women to connect and share their experiences...
......'I had been trying to find the time to reconnect and reassess but life did that whole ‘busy’ thing and I kept putting myself at the bottom of the to do list. Then I did this!! Sharon was an amazing facilitator creating a beautiful grounded space to reconnect to myself as a person, and as a woman. Such a valuable and meaningful experience'......circle participant

Grab a friend and come along to the next Wild Woman Circle starting 18th October www.sharonwoolley.com.au join the fun and start to explore more deeply life in your 40's and early 50's.

I’m often asked by parents, what is the best age for my daughter to learn about periods and puberty? When should I bring her to a first moon circle?

Periods can start from the age of 8, with the average age for a first period being 12 ¾. The earlier and the more frequently we chat about periods and puberty with our children, the better. First Moon Circles are great for girls aged 8 to 12. Girls around this 8-9 often have a natural curiosity for how the body works, without the awkwardness and embarrassment that tends to creep in around 12-13, making conversations and gradual information delivery easier. So it is never too early to get started, and for girls closer to the ages 10-12, talking about puberty and periods and what to expect can alleviate a lot of anxiety, worry and menstrual shame.

First moon circles celebrate menarche and offer a space for gentle, supportive conversation and holistic education about periods, helping to create a positive lasting experience for your daughter.
Circles can be made even more enjoyable and beneficial when they are experienced with a group of friends, helping to create a safe and supportive network for both mums and daughters.

For anyone wanting to find some fictional books that discuss first periods this great article may help.

Another great learning opportunity for young girls aged 9-13 is to attend First Moon circles. These fun and inclusive spaces aim to reduce shame, normalise and celebrate periods and at the same time, educate pubescent girls and parent/caregiver about the entire menstrual cycle.

Girls have an opportunity during these circles to ask all the questions they have and to share their concerns about periods and growing up.

They can also explore all the various types of period products which the girls find incredibly helpful for alleviating anxiety.

Young adult fiction is the perfect way to destigmatise periods, so why aren’t more authors writing about it?
