We’re excited to introduce the newest member of the Summit team - Emma.

Emma brings a wealth of experience to the clinic, with her journey beginning in 2013 while working at a VFL club during her Diploma of Remedial Massage. She went on to complete her Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy in 2015 and has continued to build an impressive career in both private practice and elite sport.

Since 2014, Emma has been working with the Geelong Football Club, where she is now in her 12th season as a Massage Therapist. Alongside this, she has over 10 years of experience in private practice, combining her skills in remedial massage and myotherapy to tailor treatment to each individual.

We’re thrilled to have Emma on board and know our patients will benefit greatly from her experience and care. Emma will be starting with us from 4th May, and to celebrate we’re offering $20 off all first-time appointments with her for the first 6 weeks! Book now to make sure you don't miss out

Is Myotherapy covered by private health?

CrossFit is a great general all over strength and conditioning program. However; there are some areas that can get overlooked when it comes to strength, activation and injury prevention. Everything in Crossfit is fast and “for time” and as a result developing time under tension, eccentric loading and isometric strength is overlooked- this is where injuries happen. 

These 7 exercise should be a staple in any athletes accessory program: 

1. Supinated grip horizontal Rows
 All the pulling in crossfit is vertical; whether it’s on the rig or off the floor with a pronated grip. Adding in some Barbell rows with a supinated grip will improve shoulder health, work on that lat and back strength and develop isometric spinal stiffness. 

2. Barbell RDLs. 
Building strength with this movement will skyrocket your pulling strength off the floor and strengthen your back to avoid injuries. 

3. Psoas March 
Our Psoas is a hip flexor muscle but they also act as a major spinal stabiliser. With so much kipping performed on a weekly basis isolating this muscle for strength is neglected and as a result can cause spinal instability

4. Side planks with a clam
Nearly all of the movements in Crossfit are performed in the one anatomical plane. Not much time is spent on strengthening obliques which when overlooked can become weak and cause lower back and hip pain. 

5. Dips 
Don’t shy away from doing bodybuilding work. Bigger, stronger triceps will help with all your pressing. 

6. Lateral box step ups 
Save your knees. The benefits of doing unilateral work like this amazing. Iron out any leg glute imbalances and strengthen your patella tendons to handle the volume of plyometrics and squatting. 

7. Landmine press 
The landmine press puts the shoulder in a scapular friendly position. Thus; reducing anterior shoulder pain, improves mechanics and Serratur anterior activation. This is an ideal exercise to prevent shoulder overuse injuries.
