Yin is on with me tonight at 5:30 at Shambhala Yoga Shala 🙏🏼 What is Yin? In Yin we hold a pose for a longer period of time (usually seated or lying down) and we use props (bolsters, blocks) to support the body and release the tension in target areas, stretching and rehydrating the soft tissue. Yin invites us to sit with discomfort, to return to the breath and gives our whole being a chance to rejuvenate and replenish. We are encouraged to meet our physical and mental edge and to soften wherever we can. Hope to see you there 😊

Deep breaths ~ simple body-led movement ~ and I’m in the present ~ I release myself from the messy bed, the dirty glass door, and all the items on the to do list ~ I slow down, my muscles respond, they soften ~ I feel my breath expand my belly, rise up my spine and flare my ribs ~ my mind responds, it softens

And then my heart melts when my 7 year old says “Mum, hold there - the light around you is beautiful” 🧡

My 7 year old, Leo, chose these pages from his book to share as inspiration for students this morning 🥰 My goal is always to provide a space to allow these two things to flourish and to go home with you after class 🙏🏼 (although there is less dance in our Yin relaxation than in this picture! 😜)

Our Steiner inspired Winter Table was the centrepiece for our class this morning 🍁 A beautiful friend of mine who is part of the local Steiner community shared this with me and I just love it 🧡 It is a beautiful and simple way of connecting with the seasons and exploring presence, acceptance and the inevitability of change ~ I find it really encourages me to be conscious when I am in nature, to notice what is around me and how the leaves, seeds, and animals shift and change without resistance ~ and Leo and I have experienced such joy in exploring and contributing to this!

I find nature an amazing healer, and one of the best balms for soul fever ~ I am so blessed to live amongst the trees and the birds, but this is not the case for everyone, and also not what everyone wants...but the soothing, soul nourishing power of nature is well documented (see link in comments) and unbelievably important for our mind, body and soul....if you find yourself cooped up inside a lot, unable to get into the great outdoors, or just not a fan of the reality of being in nature, immerse your senses in this amazing series on Netflix.....and yes, the slow pace can be frustrating and anxiety inducing for some as it is in stark contrast to the fast paced nature of our lives...but breathe deeply, notice what comes up for you and give your body and soul a gift ~ let your nervous system be calmed and your stress response subdued through the beautiful imagery and the relaxing music...enjoy! 🌼

In Yin Yoga we use props in different ways to allow the entire body to release and relax whilst holding a pose for longer - Rufus helped me out today and kept my leg down allowing me to deeply soften into the pose 😂 thanks buddy 🙏🏼
