This reflection comes from someone who arrived at Gunnebah feeling worn down and unsure where to turn next. What stood out most was the care, the nourishment, and the therapy that helped things begin to make sense again.

They speak about feeling supported, learning through classes and workshops, and being met with patience and understanding by the team. Most of all, they describe finding hope at a time when it felt out of reach.

If this sounds familiar, support is available. You don’t have to figure it out on your own.

Addiction isn’t a weakness or a character flaw. It’s often tied to mental health and can be a real cry for help. We understand that.

For some, substances become a way to cope with stress, anxiety, or trauma. For others, ongoing use can trigger or worsen symptoms of depression, low self-esteem, or emotional instability.

Research shows that co-occurring disorders are incredibly common with estimates suggesting around half of those facing substance use issues are also managing a mental health condition.

It’s not always easy to separate the two, and treating just one side often isn’t enough.

That’s why recovery should support the whole person, not just the substance use, but the emotional, physical, and mental patterns that come with it.

We know this isn't easy but if you or someone you care about needs support, help is available. You don’t have to figure it out alone.

When someone you care about is struggling with addiction, it’s natural to want to help. But not all support leads to change.

It’s balance between love and enabling, encouragement and control. While there’s no perfect way to support someone, avoiding these common traps can protect both you and your loved one from further harm.

At Gunnebah, we speak with many family members and partners who are going through this exact situation. We can help you understand what to look for, how to communicate effectively, and how to offer support that is helpful, not harmful.

If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed or unsure what to do next, we’re here to talk.

Many people delay seeking help because they think things aren’t “bad enough” or feel they should manage on their own.

But when substance use begins to impact your health, relationships, or peace of mind, it might be time to take a closer look.

This blog explores the key signs to look out for and why rehab can be a powerful step toward lasting change.

You don’t need to hit rock bottom to know something isn’t right.

For a lot of people, the signs are quieter than expected. It can look like constantly thinking about it, planning around it, making promises to yourself, then feeling frustrated when it keeps looping back. It can also show up as pulling away from people, feeling flat, or spending more time managing the impact than actually living your life.

In this reel, we share three signs that often appear before things get worse. If you’ve been unsure whether it’s “bad enough” to reach out, this is worth watching.

If anything feels familiar, support is available and you don’t have to do it alone.

In early recovery from alcohol or drug use, cravings are often the body’s way of signalling that something is out of balance.

Research shows these cravings can be triggered by a mix of physical, emotional and environmental factors such as poor sleep, low blood sugar, stress and dehydration.

During recovery, the brain is still recalibrating after long term substance use. This can make cravings feel stronger and more urgent than usual.

That is why getting the basics right matters more than people think.

• Regular meals help keep blood sugar stable
• Hydration supports brain and body function
• Daily routines reduce stress and decision fatigue
• Rest improves emotional regulation
• Consistent support reminds you that you are not alone

When the body begins to settle, the mind often follows. Over time, what once felt urgent can begin to ease. If you are looking for a safe, structured place to rebuild these foundations, Gunnebah offers that support.

Withdrawal is often imagined as a purely physical experience, but it affects much more than the body.

Changes in sleep, mood, focus and decision-making are common, and can make early recovery feel overwhelming without the right support.

That’s why a structured, calming environment matters so much. With routine, guidance and a safe space to settle, the process becomes more manageable and less frightening.

If you or someone you care about is preparing for change, you don’t have to face it alone.
